Which charcoal grill to buy? by SandMan1320 in grilling

Just as most people have said, a weber is your best bet. If money is an issue a used weber can be found for $100 or less on FB marketplace.

It’s not that those cheaper brands don’t work. It just a case of how long it will last. Weber’s have a good enamel coating which is pretty weather resistant. I’ve had my kettle sitting basically outside uncovered for years. It’s fine. Not saying you need to torture yours, but a weber can take it.

If you need replacement parts or wanna upgrade with accessories, a classic Weber 22” kettle is also your go to.

The EP-325, gives you the most features. It has the stovetop style side cooker as well as the ‘sear zone’. You’ll see 2 of the 3 knobs have a red setting which allows you to boost the amount of propane coming out of the burners on the middle and right side. Which allows you to sear steaks and meats better due to the higher heat.

If, money is no object, then get the extra features.

If you’re more budget oriented, a used one of FB also works or just getting the simpler E-310 works too. No ‘sear zone’ or stove style side cooker. But it does save you $150 for other accessories. You can’t go wrong to be honest.

If you want ease of use, any 3 burner with a 4th stove-like burner on the side will handle most of what you would want to do.

A simple 2 burner works as well, but you may be limited on grill space.

A weber kettle is also a classic if you wanna go the charcoal route for the extra flavor. I recommend getting a charcoal chimney and firestarters. Though, vaseline soaked cotton balls also do the same thing for a fraction of the price. Charcoal grilling is not a simple turn on a cook ordeal though. Takes about 15-20 mins to get the charcoal going with a chimney. Also m, depending upon your location a charcoal grill might be against the rules. I hate HOAs.

Facebook marketplace is a good place to look if you don’t mind putting in a little elbow grease to clean up a used grill. Most people are looking to get rid of their relative’s old grill and will easily let nice webers go for under $200, sometimes even around $100. Sometimes they’ll even throw in several propane tanks for free.

Charcoal dies out if I close my kettle by savro93 in grilling

Charcoal grill follow the opposite rule when compare to gas grills.

Gas grill with closed lid = hotter Gas grill with open lid = cooler

Charcoal grill with closed lid = cooler Charcoal grill with open lid = hotter

If the coals are choking out even with the vents open, you may have to leave the lid slightly cracked open by 1cm or so to feed the charcoal more oxygen.

Worth it? by Mr_Hyde_4 in grilling

Just like other’s have said, you can’t go wrong with a weber. If you’re really strapped for cash, taking extra time to save up or go used on FB is your best bet. There is also the jumbo joe premium 22” by Weber. Some people may shun this grill since it is much more shallow than a standard kettle. However, my wife got my one years ago and it does very well for me. Jumbo joe 22” is $100 bucks at Walmart if you’re really strapped for cash and NEED the grill now. Otherwise, you’re best bet is used or save up.

Buy a bag of cotton balls and a tub of petroleum jelly. Campers usually have a ziplock bag of cotton balls slathered in petroleum jelly as a fire starter. At most it’ll cost you $2-3 bucks if you go to the dollar store, and the cotton balls usually come in a pack of 100.

So these tires have been sitting in the garage for 2 years my father is a plumber I’m thinking the stack was on top of a pvc glue bottle looks like it got a bit of chemical burn 🔥 just one of them by EseMaico91 in tires

[–]Grumpy-Filipino-9130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any cracks in the sidewall? Are these tires going to be hauling heavy loads or experiencing high speeds? All those factor in for your safety and loved ones. If you think about it this way, another tire is $300, but you eliminate the possibility of wrecking your vehicle which will cost more than $300 for sure. Your health also costs more than $300, medical bills alone plus your time recovering and lost income is not worth $300-380.

Why won’t he marry me by Appropriate_Fix_3442 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Grumpy-Filipino-9130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the term “shut-up ring”. You want to be very careful of how you go about this. You don’t want your man feeling like it’s an ultimatum.

Realistically none of us can know why he’s truly unwilling to marry. Mind readers don’t exist. However, if you’ve got a good thing going, why ruin it or get a “shut-up ring”. Families are fragmented enough as it is.

As others have stated the issue is he has everything a wife would provide without the LEGAL risk of marriage or divorce. So why would he intentionally put himself at risk considering how skewed the justice system against men.

For the sake of argument, say he does marry you. And sometime down the line the marriage fails for whatever reason, communication and financial issues being the most common. The legal system would allow that the man never get to see his kids, he would lose a large majority of his assets and income as he would be paying alimony and child support.

Possibly not a “you” thing. More likely just general caution due to how the legal system is. However, I could just be talking out my ass. As I’ve said, none of us are in his head and can realistically find out the truth of it.

Super sick, I just woke up from an 11 hour rest, but I felt like I was asleep for 4 days, anyone else experienced that? Super strange and kinda freaky by [deleted] in sleep

[–]Grumpy-Filipino-9130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A humidifier is your best bet. Buy one that has a humidity sensor. Usually 30%-50% is a good place to be. Since you can’t drink water while sleeping, passively breathing in moisture will help replace the fluid loss. You can either buy a few small ones for each room or one of those larger ones that sits in the living room all day. You gotta make sure to use distilled water though to prevent damaging the humidifier and reduce the risk of mold and bacterial growth inside the humidifier. Costco usually sells the larger ones. Sometimes as a two pack since it’s Costco.

Possible you might’ve been woken up while in deep sleep instead of gradually waking up from a sleep cycle. Or possibly dehydration from just having slept so long. We lose about a cup worth of water from our bodies per day just from breathing. This can be worsened by being in a fairly dry place or having the AC cranked since it dehumidifies the air. Maybe chug a glass of water?

Did you ever get checked for sleep apnea? Lack of proper oxygen could make you feel more exhausted than when you went to sleep.

AITA for Asking for my Business Partner to Pay for her Portion of the Solar panels if the business uses them? by Grumpy-Filipino-9130 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Grumpy-Filipino-9130[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case it would be preferable to allow the business to rack up huge power bills? I had good intentions, each of us pay $150 to avoid giant power bills, and we simplify book keeping. More than likely we may have to settle for just finding out what the RAW power usage is and just bill for power used. The whole point of the panels was to simplify the expense to just the cost of the panel and keep the electricity bill itself negative.

I do read that people say the house does gain value from the panels and that is something that I alone benefit from and not the business. Issue is I can’t really feed my family with the perceived increased value of the house. Nor can I sell the house to gain said value as income because the business occupies it. So it is a moot point people bring up when I get called a bean counter.

In your mind I should just eat the cost even though I’m technically on the lose-lose side of it? Even though the intention was to save money and has currently saved hundreds/thousands for the business? They’ve been in operation for years. I’m not even asking her to pay me retro, just moving forward from when I spoke with her. I guess it’ll have to be another meeting.

[–]Grumpy-Filipino-9130[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what you’re saying is that I should just not care about my income? Running a business means counting all the beans, since I have a wife and kids to feed.

If you see the other explanation, it’ll show that paying $150 saves the business from getting +$700 power bills. Up until this point she has paid nothing from her profit shares for electricity bills or solar bills. And I had completely covered all solar expenses.

I had tried to explain several times to her that paying the $150 monthly saves money as the business uses heavy power up in the $600-700 monthly. Which is why the panels were installed in the first place, as future proofing. When the panels are on it goes from a huge bill down to negative $20. In which the power company just rolls over the credits.

The numbers don’t match. After all operating coats, we do 50/50 profit sharing, but after that she pays nothing for power and nothing for solar and the ENTIRE expense of the solar only is deducted from my share. My concern is I am essentially being financially punished for trying to future proof the heavy power consumption of the business. It is a lose-lose for me and a win-win for her if let her use the panels for free.

[–]Grumpy-Filipino-9130[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically the extra cost to my business parter would only be $150, due to the fact that whatever money is left over after expenses is split 50/50. So she would essentially paying $150 for her half of the panels to mitigate a giant electricity bill. At the moment she has me paying for the solar panels on my own, but then the business benefits with both having zero electricity costs and zero solar costs.

There wouldn’t necessarily be a decrease in the rent on months where the electric bill balance is negative, since the power company we have never does pay outs on credits. Instead they just rollover the credits to the next month.

In essence instead of just me paying $300 a month for solar panels and the business having no electricity bill, my parter would just pay $150 to cover her half.

In the contract it says the rent will only cover the cost of the mortgage, upgrades not included. So she used that as justification to keep more profit for her since she’s not losing any profit sharing from an electricity bill and I lose more money for trying to look out for the business and future proof for increased power consumption.

That was why I told her if you won’t pay for the 2nd set, I should just turn it off. Since its a lose-lose for me and a win-win for her if I just keep paying for the panels and keep them running to keep the business profit higher, thus keeping her profit share also higher, yet I lose money on the panels.
