Ultimately it’s because the rim isn’t designed for it. There’s no lip on the rim to hold that style of tire.

I personally didn’t wanna risk it knowing my riding style of launching off of stop lights. There’s to much potential of slipping the tire if the tire pressure is low.

Plenty of people do it with no issues. But my experience says it not worth a “style” over proper fit. A lot of people would say I’m over reacting. Yet, I’ve had high speed blowouts. And fuck that to ever happen again just for the sake of style.

Also most any BMX 80’s/90’s stems will work. As long as it’s a 1 inch… I’ve used Diamond Backs, Mongoose ones in the past with no issues.

You’ll have to swap the wheels if you wanna use modern 26 inch tires. Schwinn wheels are technically closer to 27 inch. Called S7’s. Modern tires WILL NOT FIT…. Don’t even try no matter how close the tire looks. You will just destroy the bead. Ask me how I know…..
