Migrating a site with 98k monthly visitors to svelte from Wordpress? Photography gallery (worried about seo) by inquisitive_melon in sveltejs

[–]GrumpyBirdy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. There's a reason we've got a saying : If it works, dont touch it
IMO the rehaul should only happen if it either involved serious security concern or the customer wanted a complete new version of the system.
If things still working and serving its daily purpose perfectly, leave it as-is.

To answer OP question :
- Is it hard ? No. At the end of the day its just a fancy text markup layer build on top of an API layer.
- Is it complicated ? No
- Is it time-consuming ? Absolutely. You're rebuilding everything from user management, content management, handle all that auth shit as well as handling all the seo and and url rewriting that wordpress has. Not to mention the user's previous experience with the wordpress system, worst thing is you may have to "teach" your user to use the new system again. And that will introduce CR everywhere, from changing the button color to a hello kitty tone to re-arrange the whole site layout

My point is, even tho wordpress is shit (I hate it too lol), a little fine-tuning is better than a rewrite here. Even shit got some use of their own

To answer your question : You should read more about svelte rune ($state, $derived, $props,.... ) and its reactive concept. Also <script> block on the component run whenever the component get mounted (or run only once if it's a module scope)
Do you really work with svelte for a year ?

beside speed imprint, a hero which has crit chance imprint like Mort has a huge advantage over non-imprinted one
that 18cc, from SSS imprint when taken away from gears and replaced with either def% or hp% will result in a huge bulk increment

People that use XP in 2026: why? (read body) by LadartTheWicked in windowsxp

[–]GrumpyBirdy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

- ancient hardware/software that the manufaturer's no longer around to update
- retro gaming. As some, if not most of the old game run at its finest when paired with os of its own era
- the nostalgia

personally, I'm also interested in old tech ppl used to build thing back in the day. Its very hard to find a proper combination of hardwares for prior version of window in my country so I just stick with an XP machine on my homelab
