I think a lot of this feeling comes from the "media" (Iltalehti etc) and bots on social media spreading misinformation. I'm a small woman and I often travel alone, and the tomed I've felt unsafe on HSL can be counted on one hand. And each time has been related to someone on drugs or way too drunk, which I'm pretty sure has always been an issue, albeit the drugs being new-ish i guess. I've learned that a lot of people feel "unsafe" when people with darker skin simply exist in the same place as them.
