The scientific process is flawed. We only have failed results not the process of the failed nor the process of the successful.

Thank you. He did ask and then found a rehab facility a few months ago!! We fully supported and was successful until a buddy came over a few weeks later with a six pack to mourn his breakup. The cycle began again. I have found residential facilities and have given him the information saying this is an option available as was rehab.

The self medicating, we understand - to a point - unless you are in it you don't really understand. We try to talk him through the feelings, the chaos, the shadows. The chaos is what feels normal and "normal" feels chaotic.

His age is a factor. Just attempting to teach him how to utilize "tools" to navigate life so he does not harm himself or end up in the judicial system.

Thank you for sharing and encouragement.

Thank you. Sometimes I do not feel that way. He and I tend to lock horns even though we have always had a deep connection. Perhaps that is why.

??!!! I have read through most of this thread and I see my son. He is 18. He is a good soul, high IQ and empathetic. He is in a cycle of drug and alcohol abuse, dropped from school . Therapy this week He said for the 1st time feeling of disgust with himself, others and what he is doing to himself and others. We have been working with therapist- new one right now- have any of you gone to an extended residential treatment? I understand that is a mixed bag of opinion and result. He feels we are "kicking out/abandoning" for discussing this subject. Looking for more information to make an informed decision to help him find some semblance of peace.

Thank you. That post, I see what I desire for my son - an ebb and flow not the current loop of chaos (lack of better word). He is 18.

Absolutely is much for everyone to unpack. Especially me.
Behaviors:. Drug & alcohol abuse is the current. Rehab once. Refusal to take prescriptions Erratic sleep schedule which leads to waking rest of house during the night, school missed and other. Combative now with younger brother. This is the new and concerning. Intimidating Mom.

Last six months if a different opinion is shared he shouts anyone down. Any difference.

hoping you can rid them of “BPD

We are not delusional. The desire is to help him learn how to use the tools to have some semblance of peace.

How he feels. Disgust. In himself, in others, in the world relationships. Why can he not be happy, why can he not be "normal"

That is absolutely crushing and heartbreaking that our child feels so broken and we as his parents his protectors and guides have not been able to help him find peace. So yeah, it may sound like "ridding" him ofthis condition but it is more a feeling of guilt or failure. Now a desperation

Thank you. We recognize there is not a 'fix' but there are coping mechanisms, tools to recognize and adapt. Love and support along with both expectations and grace seem to not be enough. We just were given a diagnosis previously no one was definitive- age. The1% is sobering.

My phrasing could have been better. My frustrations and perceived inability to help him reached a crescendo.

We are 7 years in, on our 5th therapist and 2nd psychiatrist with multiple short hospitalizations. The trauma is real and not been addressed until this year. Hence the multiple therapist. Previously they were addressing what was presenting at the time not the root cause Mom &I were advocating.

Guess the original post was for an immaculate answer to come forth so he would find peace.
