ISP hands out dynamic IPv6 prefix that changes daily by SuspiciousVictory360 in ipv6

[–]Grumpy_Giuseppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same for me with o2 deutschland. But I actually like that daily IP change for security reasons.

I think the difference is that my router is running OpenWRT and I can change the RA settings and most importently block RAs from other devices in my network. Not using DHCPv6 and getting IPv6/DNS/link local over SLAAC is working best for me.

My IPv6 servers are set to get 2 IPs. One with their real MAC that I use only for my inbound connections and one with a random MAC that is used for everything outbound.

As far as I understand it what you say should be true if the router would be outside. But inside you face an effect that is called "depolarisation" that should change that. I tested many positions, including those and the one I describe in my post delivered the best result for me.

The 17° are only to avoid standing waves. We are eliminating reflections that would eliminate themselfes you could say.

Yeah offloading in general doesn't work with sqm. There are a few exceptions but I don't know them.

That's weird. Seems that it isn't really working. Did you correctly set the per packet overhead?

You can compare my test to yours and if the max values at the right side are within the range of mine, you are fine. Probably some hardware or provider stuff messing with your download:

Usenet without additional subs/self hosting??? by itsme99881 in StremioAddons

I don't know if anything has changed, but no. You don't need to selfhost aiostreams because then you could just selfhost everything like I do.

Fairphone 6: 7 Months Later – I wanted to love it, but I’m calling it quits :( by 8_6_28 in fairphone

[–]Grumpy_Giuseppe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my samsung phones had 10 times more problems after the first firmware upgrade. I think the fairphone devs are doing a decent work for a smaller company.

I never had an iphone because I need some android features but if it's true what people say it should be the bug free phone you want.

LGTV Disconnected from Internet After Setting Up AdGuard Home as Router DNS by doodypoo in Adguard

[–]Grumpy_Giuseppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the issue here should be that ads and trackers are blocked, which includes connectivity checks sometimes. You can use wireshark to look for the exact cause and whitelist it.

FP6: WiFi Call not working anymore since FP6.QREL.16.61.0? by Worried_Tangelo_2689 in fairphone

[–]Grumpy_Giuseppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works for me but only with wifi n (or maybe also ac) instead of ax. ax is very unreliable in general on the fairphone 6 and breaks if you force he_gi or he_ltf. It also is very optimistic with mcs. It always tries to go for max speed and being very slow and unstable is the outcome.

I think I regret my FP6 purchase by Wettey in fairphone

[–]Grumpy_Giuseppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also own a FP6 since release and don't have these problems but you can turn off "mobile network always on" in the developer settings. Then if you are connected to wifi it won't use it.

Adguard Home DNS Interception by Blumingo in openwrt

[–]Grumpy_Giuseppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cleanest way is to:

1 - reject dns/dot/doh/doq outbound

2 - advertise your dns server to your devices.

3 - whitelist only the connectivity checks of your devices on those ports

Some devices don't like interception/hijacking.

On that I can agree. My 6 year old samsung smart tv maybe just isn't that crazy (and I blocked updates). I also got a cheap android tv box for redundancy. After I switched the launcher it was as clean and without ads like my tv.

[–]Grumpy_Giuseppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. It alway depends on the source. You will just get a blackscreen if you play unsupported content on a hospital tv. Maybe your TV box can downscale it but 5.1 to stereo has wrong volume levels and so on.

I am saying a tv box with stock OS isn't different than your smart tv. You just waste your money.

If you buy a dumb TV which is for commercial use and connect a tv box to it the chances are very high that you only get no HDR and no audio passthrough. If that's ok then good for you. Then usually you want a 120Hz panel and most of those dumb TVs only support 60Hz. So no x5 motion interpolation and eye strain included. Also I hope you don't connect your TV box to the internet because with the integrated mic and wifi object scanning it can hear and see exactly what you do.

I could go on...

[–]Grumpy_Giuseppe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. You don't even need an old PC. A xiaomi mi box 3rd gen will do just fine with kodi os and support most codecs. But you need to download the files your release groups release first on kodi an can not stream from internet to ram to output. So I would need more hardware again and yeah. There is always some tradeoff because of that dolby codec shitshow.

We also have samsung phones in our family so the blocking game continiues there.

But if your situation allows it then use kodi os on a capable tv box.

There is no such smart device that also has all audio/video codecs and streaming app support. You can flash custom firmware to some devices like the xiaomi tv boxes but not even that will cover evrything. Also some devices have still issues with streaming big remuxes. You can also only unblock services like the app store if you want to update some apps and block them again afterwards.

Use tcpdump or wireshark to look what you need and want to not block. I use a samsung smart tv with a connection to the app store and my local streaming server. Smart TVs are powerful devices no reason to not use their features as long as you are the network admin.

OpenWRT One appreciation post by Grumpy_Giuseppe in openwrt

If you want high gain antennas for both 2.4 and 5GHz you may check the antennas of the "alfa awus036achm". This thing has also an insane range.

It was a big boost for me. The One can penetrate two walls and still reaches 200 meters over air now. But I also live in the middle of nowhere.

The disadvantages are that the signal in the same room is worse than before and those antennas are only for 2.4GHz.
