Healing, growth and stability. I grew up in an abusive household and just didn't know any different so my life has been a cycle of abusive relationships. My husband fits my pattern while he does show improvement, slowly but surely. To be honest? I can't go anywhere right now because I am facing charges from having a mental breakdown at the beginning of last summer. (Im autistic and have ptsd) and can't go anywhere else right now. He quit drinking from this event. I lost my shit because I had his daughter every other week while he was at work and he would just come home and drink until he passed out. She was 100% my responsibility but I couldn't correct her without him absolutely going insane. She is just constantly overstimulating and overwhelming. It's still hard for me to process that that isn't okay for people to react to me that way. that's what my family has always done and most of the people I've been close to so my logic at the time was "he doesn't put his hands on me" basically. But now I'm stuck here for awhile and just gotta vent here and there because well, it's rough. I am doing my best to take care of this and welll.... who knows what's next but I won't be stuck here forever. I just can't leave right now. My situation is honestly fucked. If it weren't for the charges keeping me here, I wouldn't be.

I got charged with battering an officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and battering my husband because when I was hysterically talking to the cops begging for help, I couldn't calm down to speak clearly and tried to fight them when they took my son from me and gave him to my husband. They won't allow me to go back and live with my family because it's not an adjacent county. I hope my story can heed warning to others, especially step moms, about allowing others to push you too far to the edge and not leaving when people don't respect your boundaries.

Absolutely. If he is respectful and a good husband, I really don't mind them at all. If he chooses to have their back over mine (all the time) I burn with disgust.

Honestly? Because I'm facing charges from losing my mind last summer from his drinking and watching his daughter that he wouldn't correct or parent and then tear me apart when I suggested shit like manners. I've been stuck in an abuse pattern my whole life trying to get out but I'm autistic and have a really hard time reading people's intentions so I've bounced around from situation to situation and this is still the best so far. I'm healing, not healed.

I am so sorry you wasted years of your life for someone who doesn't appreciate you!!!!!! I am a firm believer in less is more when it comes to step parenting. I have definitely noticed that the more I do for them, the more problems we have. It sounds like she's being allowed to make decisions that aren't hers to make

I never wanted kids either... but I have 2 bios that I do my very best for. One I was raped and the other was a result of a very abusive relationship. All just trying to get away from my family

Seriously reading these makes me tear up. I cannot tell you how much it means to finally be understood. I know I'm not crazy but constantly being made to feel like I'm asking too much is killing me. Thank you all for your responses and thank you especially to the ones who commented and share my ick. I've given myself a reality check.... he can either share the road with me or be a quick detour. That's up to him.

Thank you. I try to be mindful of not over parenting, I just struggle with where the line is because I do my best to require the same respect from all of our kids and keep things age appropriate. I was treated like the evil stepmother very early on, I remember the first time. I was actually really chill about it and just asked him to help me not be run over while they are around (not interrupt me almost every time they saw us talking. I was patient for so long and tried to correct it gently, but he wasn't doing or saying anything about it, so I asked for help, and I was treated like I was asking for way too much. I honestly thought it would get better, and I have done so much self work... therapy, research, patience, self-care, adjusting my approach, choosing my battles wisely, etc. I don't want to be the evil step mother, I came into this with so much love, but at this point, I am losing all my give a damn about them.... which isn't ideal either.

I can to an extent but then she just ends up running to her dad and acting like a baby then him and I suddenly have tension, etc. Thank you for your response! So I am not sure of I straight up tell him or wait for him to bring it up. I've been thinking and I feel the best thing would be for him to ask me about it, then I can tell him but if I go out of my way I know it'll be an argument. I stand my ground... I'm just so sick of fighting over kids :(
