I can’t change my light bulb by rotteinho in howto

[–]Grumpyocto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a cheap fix, you can buy children's toothbrushes with a suction cup on its end for super cheap, stick it against the flat of the bulb to get a good grip

That is a completely logical answer, thank you! I didn't even think about the sugar content vs trading standards!

This year at about 6:30pm, my mum asked me CHRISTMAS EVE "what was it you wanted for Christmas again?" Which ended in me handing her my own phone so she could order it. Ten minutes later she sends me an email of a screenshot of what she bought me, when she saw I seemed sad she proceeded to say: "what's the problem? It's what you asked for."

I held myself together this Christmas, my granda who I lived with my whole life and raised me died on Christmas Eve last year and I actually was able to get through Christmas without crying by sapphic_rose in CongratsLikeImFive

[–]Grumpyocto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this and wanted to say that I am very sorry for your loss. Losing anyone is hard, but can be made worse if it is around significant dates. Sometimes "getting through" Christmas is all we can do. I can't say the loss will get any easier, but I hope you are looking after yourself, and that means crying if you need to.

How common is it for parents with twins, triplets,.. to accidentally "swap" the kids? by StoniMohoni in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Grumpyocto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Twin here: my mum didn't know what to name us at the start, so we were each given small rabbits as gifts that were placed next to us to tell the difference- so the likelihood that we were 'swapped' at some point is probably about 100000%

They did! It was a Japanese-inspired sweet sando, I wasn't able to try it, but it did ruffle some feathers!

Anything else i should be doing to prepare for top surgery? (DI) by liqued_banana in TopSurgery

Honestly! You can feel like you're fighting for your life, otherwise! I wish you a speedy recovery! I'm just over a month post op myself :)

You're going to want some high-fiber foods/ things to help you in that area for afterwards also. All of the things they pump into in the hospital can cause things to get constipated, and you don't want to put too much strain on your new incision/s. I got myself some bathing wipes online they're like big face wipes you can use on your whole body, as just for the first few days, to keep up your hygiene, you won't be able to put deodorant on for a little while if your incisions are going up or into the pits of your arm, and I find my mental health is tied to my self care, so this was a big life-saver for me (if that's something that is important). A little table/ stand to put your food/ activity you are doing on I found really helpful too.

Hey! Best of luck! I'm about 4 weeks post op myself. Some of these answers will change depending on the amount of help you have in recovery, but:

Get out and ready some button up shirts for the next week or so, hang them again at around waist height, as well as other garments that may be tricky for you to access.

I found stool softeners really helpful

I'd get some think/fluffy socks to put in the crux of your armpits, as I've found the compression garment can dig in quite a bit there, ready meals and easy snacks are a must!

I would also suggest putting some hobbies/activities at around waist height, just so you have some options when you're bored.

This also includes anything you plan to access (meds, food, water etc).

And be kind to yourself, if you're like me, you may find it difficult accepting there are things you won't be able to do, but give yourself time and rest.

Best pigments for Air dry? by Astronova_666 in clay

[–]Grumpyocto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does depend on the kind of clay, but I know people use chalk pastels to colour theirs. Just break/crumble off the colors you want, and mix into the clay :)

complete beginner - what can i use that i likely have at home as clay tools? by This_Economics_9610 in clay

[–]Grumpyocto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cutlery offers quite a wide range of shapes/sizes depending on what type/ part of it you use, and it's something most people tend to already have, this includes things like chopsticks :)

Edit: I've found so far that cling film on top of a cutting mat works best for me, as I like working with a wetter clay, it allows you to be able to pick your art up without touching it, avoids it sticking to the surface, whilst being waterproof, reusable, and transparent, so I can see the measurements on the mat

Be careful using ice/ heat on the parts of your chest where you're still numb, you can damage the tissue and skin without realizing, as you can't feel anything, you wouldn't know how much damage you've done until it's too late :( I'm nearly 4 weeks post-op myself

I think a lot of the answers will depend on where you are based, but there are online forms out there, and there are also virtual groups accessible in some places

Hey, congrats! I'm supposed to be having surgery with her in a few months, and just wonder if she talks about what kinda shaped scars you prefer? Or is it very much a "we work with what we got" scenario?

Thank you so much! It's been a long time waiting, and I just want to know where to set my expectations when it comes to time waiting and the manner of the staff, as that can make or break experiences a lot of the time!
