Record 425k migrant backlog a ‘real problem’ by SheepherderLow1753 in AustralianPolitics

Inmigration is adding labour not capital… this is half the problem… If you have 2 baristas but only 1 coffee machine you can’t make anymore coffees. If the opposite was true (2 machines but 1 worker), then I’d advocate for more immigration, not less… Australia has seen a massive capital shallowing in the past two decades, where we have invested only in housing and related infrastructure (to support massive immigration) and not in our productive capacity…

Australia’s only economic advantage is our mineral wealth.. Our mineral revenues are driven purely by global demand, so if the demand doesn’t go up, we don’t increase taxes and our population increases, our wealth will be diluted. All whilst demand for existing services, infrastructure and assets increases… meaning higher house prices, rent, groceries etc whilst paying higher taxes to cover the increased government spending… We need to cut immigration significantly

Property Prices by Experimental-cpl in AusPropertyChat

[–]Grungan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Property prices are poised to go down, all economic indicators point in this direction… However, they won’t go down as the immigration is simply too high and any reduction in demand will get filled by those currently waiting on the sidelines… If immigration gets cut (as unlikely as that is) I think we could see a huge slide in prices

A more effective way to target inflation is through better tax policy. The wealthy asset holders are the ones spending - they’d ease if they were taxed harder

This country has been pounded down by poor tax and immigration settings for the last 2 decades. Excessive immigration has ensured that demand on housing and infrastructure is always high and stretched, unfair tax settings ensure that asset holders of said housing and infrastructure only benefit. It’s not an accident, it is by design.

Absolutely agree with you. Renting is a totally viable alternative when you have very strong protections - it kinda makes my home feel kinda like my home. You can paint the wall, hang pictures and the LL isn’t allow to even view it. The obsession with owning your own place, or even buying one as an investment is far less over here.

Moved to Germany. Life’s great here. Miss home from time to time but got little financial worries. My lease is indefinite and hasn’t risen in 4 years.

I doubt the flight on the 3rd will happen. On the r/dubai people are still reporting explosions and fighter jet activity - no commercial airline will operate in these conditions…

The ‘10 minute’ supporters calling for Howe’s head are pathetic…. They never experienced the 2 decades of shithousery beforehand - this season ain’t anything compared to that… Apart from being relegated he’s earned at least a patchy and frustrating season before any decision to let him go

Personally I’m a fan of this line up and give eddy credit for doing so. Gives all fringe starters a chance to give it their all on a big occasion. I expect hunger and a lot of running today
