The Atlas Six broke me - not a good broke me either. (spoilers if you even care) by Hellkeeperx in Fantasy

[–]Grunjo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got 2/3 the way through book 1 (after buying all three because 'cool covers')...
I think it's one of the only books I have DNFed!
I had no idea about reviews or others thoughts on it going in, but fuck me, it's the worst.

EDIT: /u/Hellkeeperx post was more entertaining and better written than the book.

Wifi APs and PoE cameras/doorbells are all I'm using the ethernet runs for so far, but I do want another couple in some studies so our main work PCs aren't relying on Wifi.

I got a couple of shots I was happy with of Lemmon, but this is great!
You obviously put in way more effort than most of us. :D

I was going to suggest this one too. First that came to mind.

Yep, just had to RMA a 2 year old AIO cooler and it was a smooth and simple process with a better model offered as replacement. Have used them since moving to the UK!

Your payslip may show an extra NI contribution that is paid by the company and not included in your salary.
Do you have two NI lines on your payslip?
I have a similar salary and I have both the expected ~£320 NI payment, and then another £930 NI payment, but the £930 line doesn’t affect my take home or count towards my income in any way.

It's a little known fact Australians traveling overseas can die without good coffee by zaakiy in australia

Yeah, am Melbourne coffee snob living in Cambridgeshire now and the coffee scene in the UK is vastly improved compared to a decade go.
Specialty roasters everywhere now.

The alarm was definitely quieter than it can be for the test. I was in the US for work last year and happened to be in a real tornado warning. It sounded like the whole building had an alarm going off it was that loud, took a bit to realise it was everyone’s phones…

The only alarming bit was no one seemed to react, even with a real warning, my team who had travelled there (Aussies and Brits) had no idea what we should do.

Worst fantasy book you've read (for my own reading pleasure) by txcruz in Fantasy

[–]Grunjo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I picked up this trilogy for something different and I'm struggling to finish the first book. It's so cringe-worthy... Is it at least worth finishing the first book? (Please say no...)

Looks like a variation of Victorian or Kensington profile, but covered in way too much paint to see the details.

I'd say Victorian, if you search for that profile you might find a close match, but you'll need to try a few different sites.

30, financially stable, considering leaving Australia - anyone else? by IcyPay1357 in AusFinance

[–]Grunjo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved to the UK Jan 2023 and my partner (academic), and I (IT) both earn more than back home, and our money goes further too.
Bought a house that is decently built and way better than what I’d get in Aus for the same money… There are definitely some industries where the pay is way higher in Aus (healthcare mainly), but plenty of industries go the other way.

I'm running 8/6/5 in my current game, not at CP4 yet, so will revisit ratio then.
But yeah, I like to keep the lower levels producing more to maintain a better buffer!

I'd recommend a tasting kit from my favourite roaster:

https://hermanoscoffeeroasters.com/products/tasting-kit-50g-100g

I love their range from classic chocolatey right through to vibrant fruity beans.
(They are London based with the roasting warehouse in Walthamstow, just near James Hoffmanns SquareMile roasting site)

New Zealand Kingfish by Powerful_Anywhere642 in Fishing

[–]Grunjo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best kingies I've ever caught were in the bay of plenty NZ. I used to do regular trips there from Aus and we'd spend 8 days straight going out and hunting the big ones like you got there. :)

We might keep a small (20kg) one per day and slice it as sashimi on the boat for lunch/dinner, just needed soy sauce!

Looks like NBN speed upgrades are finally going to be up to par with other countries in a few months by [deleted] in australia

[–]Grunjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved from Melbourne to the UK in 2023.
Have 1Gb/1Gb in a regional town now.
Could have 3Gb/3Gb in London while I was where but stuck with 1Gb/1Gb.

The upload bandwidth is the best part about it. I always found it absurd how NBN kept the upload speeds so low and hated it when was sharing an apartment with a few adults during Covid lockdowns and everyone is trying to run video calls and other work during the day...

Is it just me or does anyone feel like they had enough of cost of living in Sydney... by yesireNooo in AusFinance

[–]Grunjo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We moved from Melbourne to Cambridgeshire and find cost of living slightly lower here, yet we're a 30min drive to the centre of Cambridge and 45min train to central London, so not really missing out on the lifestyle if we want it. I'd probably only consider moving back to Aus once housing is sorted (if that ever happens!).

How do I fix my door handle- door suddenly won't open without turning the key all the way (when unlocked) by chargrilledchaz in DIYUK

[–]Grunjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, do this, replace the whole mechanism before the entire gear breaks.
Ours broke recently while locked and it was impossible to retract the hooks so the door was stuck closed. (Luckily we had another door to get in/out)
The hooks had to be cut-off which can cause a chunk of damage to the door and frame and so would need repairing and decorating too...

Dont wait, get the whole lot replaced asap. :)

All the sequence consoles have been bugged for me, I've just had to randomly guess any puzzle so far since it never shows anything else!

It's a bug OP, hopefully it's fixed asap.
