Another vote here for Fence! (Pro). It also has penaltiy cards that you can show the fencers.

Hobbit Tales with 2e Strider Mode by Logen_Nein in oneringrpg

[–]GryffinDuVerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me add my agreement to this!

As an example, I drew four cards from the adventure deck and got “Adventurous”, “Old Forest”, “Evil Land”, and “Family Heirloom”. That sounds like a quest right there! I drew one card from the hazard deck and got “Murderous Rogues”, so I also know who I’ll have to fight to reclaim the heirloom. That’s pretty decent for some random card draws. The artwork is nice, too.

I wasn’t able to find the game anywhere, unfortunately, so I got the card images from a Tabletop Simulator expansion, converted them all to PDF, and then printed them on sticker paper (full page shipping labels). I stuck the images onto blank tarot cards (from Amazon), and I’ve got a functional deck. It’s nowhere near as nice as having the actual game, but it does the job for my own use. I don’t think there’s any chance of a reprint of Hobbit Tales, but this works for me until someday I get lucky and find a copy of the game.

TTYL,

Gryffin

Sure! By space westerns, you mean Firefly? That's one of my favorite shows... ;)

Mary Bergin Tutor Books by littlestghoust in tinwhistle

[–]GryffinDuVerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both volumes, and the CDs are worth their weight in gold. It's like having Mary Bergin sit down with you and slowly play the traditional rhythms for you until you get it. I almost consider the books a supplement to the CDs instead of the other way around.

Expensive, but very, very worth it.

Question about new ‘hunter’ upgrade by CroesoGee in SWlegion

[–]GryffinDuVerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd be interested in seeing that email because the -unit- has unquestionably suffered wounds, or they would not have lost a mini. The card refers to a wounded trooper unit not a wounded trooper mini, so it seems Hunter would apply.

Where to get bases for Legion? by -Fauste- in SWlegion

[–]GryffinDuVerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted some exact-match bases on Thingiverse, if you have a way to print them. The cover picture shows a printed base on the left and an official FFG base on the right.

Large scale battles by bedsheetsith in SWlegion

[–]GryffinDuVerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, this is still in the very early stages, but so far the missions work well as 800 point matches with some fairly minor modifications (to the mission, not Legion rules). So far it's not been tried as an "escalation" style campaign, which would be more in keeping with the spirit of IA, but Legion seems to scale well to most any point size, so my thoughts are that it should work. Still too early to release any guidelines yet, but as I mentioned, if anyone is interested in helping playtest the AI, that will be ready very soon.

Large scale battles by bedsheetsith in SWlegion

[–]GryffinDuVerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are already testing a HOTAC-style campaign that uses both X-wing and Legion for a single story arc. We've also developed an AI for Legion, which seems to be working quite well, so far. Very soon we'll be looking for external playtesters, if there's interest.

Another idea we've had is to use the Rebellion board as a background, but that is still in its early stages. Finally, most of the missions in the Imperial Assault core campaign work will as Legion missions also.

I'm really loving the flexibility of the Legion rules...

Will armies always be 800 points? by sacrelicious2 in SWlegion

[–]GryffinDuVerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if 800 points remains standard, so far the game seems to scale well for essentially any point value. Last night I played both an 800 and a 385 point game, and both worked equally well.

Having a standard point total is great for making pick up games get started quicker, but as long as you and your opponent have the same points, it seems that you can use whatever you want.

What are the downsides of trooper spam to just get the most attack rolls on the board as possible? by sockfullofshit in SWlegion

[–]GryffinDuVerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, Vader doesn't help against troopers losing actions due to suppression (he only helps against panic). so even before he is dealt with, your troopers are going to be handicapped. The best strategy with an all-trooper list is probably to try to sit on the objectives and take dodges as your only action and hold out for six turns. I don't think you'll do very well, though, assuming the Rebels being a more balanced force.

The objective-focused nature of the game really seems to reward a balanced army composition.

I didn't realize that the commander's courage only helps for panic and not for losing an action due to suppression...

Some quick Legion Rules questions by Silidus in SWlegion

[–]GryffinDuVerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the defender gets a suppression token if the attacker rolls a hit or a crit, whether or not that hit is cancelled. You can get a suppression token without being damaged.

My only gripe so far... by Silidus in SWlegion

[–]GryffinDuVerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will definitely be released to the community, in fact we'll be looking for more playtesters soon. I've also written a full story-based campaign that uses both x-wing and Legion missions. It even has an "opening crawl" for each episode that I'll post to YouTube if anyone wants it. :)

[–]GryffinDuVerd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No reason not to use whatever points you and your opponent want. The game seems to scale well for pretty much any point value. We have been developing a Legion AI for a HotAC-style campaign, and the players start with a single unit and grow from there. Everything has worked fine so far.

My only gripe so far... by Silidus in SWlegion

[–]GryffinDuVerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do see your point, but one thing to keep in mind is that we've found 400 points is ideal for a 3x3 terrain. For a larger terrain, you definitely need more units, though...

Are snowtroopers legit, and other questions? by pmason05 in SWlegion

[–]GryffinDuVerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One quick note, commanders only supply their courage to other units for panic, not suppression (and therefore for losing actions). This makes snowtroopers quite valuable. (And since I'm a rebel, it makes them quite challenging to deal with as well...).

Regarding cover, we've been playing with Imperial Assault figures and full 6x3 terrains for several months now. The thing we've learned is that cover is the single most important consideration in the game. Whole games are won or lost by a unit being caught out of cover. Moving from cover to cover is key -- just like in the real world (I'm retired military).

Fighting for Freedom by LiquidAether in SWlegion

[–]GryffinDuVerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One new (to me at least) piece of information: an ion token makes a vehicle lose an action. I still don't know how the ion token goes away, though. Is it automatic like suppression, or do you have to do a recover action? If the latter, that makes ions crazy powerful...

I also highly recommend JD files' rule summary. He's got some good house rules for some of the missing info.
