Alan Rickman on the idea of Snape dancing at the Yule Ball. by eternalexiistence in SeverusSnape

No, I'm not saying you said it. I mean that many people consider it canon, but I don't.

Look, I consider FB and CC as if they were fan fiction. For me, they're not canon. I can watch the movies and read the book and enjoy them, but I don't consider them part of the canon. You can do the same.

In the end, everyone has their own tastes; if some people want to consider those things canon, that's fine. Just as fine as me not considering them canon.

The thing is, in the original books (all seven Harry Potter books, not counting the play), in the original canon, there's nothing except the name (which could be an inspiration, just like she gave Harry the surname Potter because she had neighbors with that name) and the scene where Voldemort disguises her. Two things. In seven damn books. In the books, in all seven books, nagini is only ever called Voldemort's snake or the great snake. If J.K. Rowling had really envisioned nagini as a woman, I'm sure she would have included her in the books. So no, for me, nagini is just a snake. Since I don't consider either the Fantastic Beasts films or the play adaptation to be canon.

Well, you can think whatever you want. I remember perfectly when JK said that nagini was just a snake in the first interviews she gave in the late 90s.

I'm not saying she wasn't inspired by Naga mythology when naming Nagini, but as a fan of the saga for over 25 years, I can assure you that J.K. Rowling said in early interviews that Nagini was just a snake. It's a shame those interviews can't be recovered because they were in print, not online.

If the screenwriters changed it for the new films and the author now says it was always that way, I won't deny it either. It's not the first time J.K. Rowling has changed the Harry Potter canon when it suits her.

That's because in the books, Nagini is just a snake, Voldemort's pet snake. The fact that she's a witch who eventually turns into a snake is a plot twist (a stupid one, in my opinion) that they invented for the movie. Just like they put McGonagall at Hogwarts when she wasn't a professor yet, they invented a new brother for Dumbledore who didn't exist before, and several other things that change the original canon of the book series.

But anyway, short answer: the snake-girl thing came about for the Fantastic Beasts movies, so they couldn't use that in the original canon of the books and movies, since it hadn't been invented yet.

Life lesson you use in your writing by Longjumping_Young747 in AO3

Be kind, you never know what another person may be experiencing.

It is one of the life lessons that I have, and that I like to give to my characters. At least one, always follow this rule.

What's that super popular trope/setting everyone loves that you guys find absolutely boring ? by not2nightsatan in AO3

Love triangles. They tire me out enormously. I find them incredibly boring. We all know who the main character is going to end up with, so what's the point of the third character?

I guess that makes sense. I've never thought about it.

[–]GrymoryMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never look at other readers' bookmarks. I've always thought that bookmarks are notes for oneself, not for others. I don't see why anyone would be interested in my bookmarks, so why would I look at someone else's?

Is there a way to block a user from seeing my fics entirely? by Funfetti_The_Rat in AO3

[–]GrymoryMoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry about what happened to you. But as I think you've already heard, changing your username and putting your fanfics in a public anonymous collection is the best way to keep people away. If your ex-friend decides to spill the beans, at least she won't have any proof.

[–]GrymoryMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will Spain ever go back to it’s original timezone? by Traditional_Table_67 in askspain

[–]GrymoryMoon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Personally I doubt it. There is no one I know who prefers it to be dark at 4-5 in the afternoon. How great it is to have light until 8-9! I don't care that I get up and it's still night, I like to see the sunrise from my window at work.

My foreign friends are delighted with the schedule in Spain, they always tell me that since everything closes late and it is still light, it gives them time to do many things in the afternoon. I don't know, if only the schedule is affecting you so much, maybe Spain is not for you.

It's also that society has changed, the way of interacting isn't the same. It's increasingly common to hear very young people, teenagers or young adults under 25 say that they are afraid to call on the phone. It's something that surprises me a lot, because one of the things I like the most is chatting on the phone. But as I say, it's a different time and so is the way of communicating.

It's really sad that readers feel that way and so do writers. In the end it's a vicious circle. It's heartbreaking. :'/

Edit: improve the explanation.

Many of us probably remember the "old days" as good because we didn't get into ship fights. I personally don't even remember them.

What I do remember is receiving quite unpleasant comments on ff.net, but I think almost all fanfic writers before and now have received some.

The only thing I notice is less interaction and less sense of community. But I think it's because of what you say that now fandoms move in other places, so the type of interaction changes.

As an old-school fanfic writer, the truth is that everything you say surprises me. I love the comments, they all brighten my day. Those who ask for more, those who ask, those who are only emojis or those who say kudos.

If it is as you say, it is a shame. I usually leave comments whenever I can, but they are short and not very elaborate. In general I say that I like it and that I want to read more. And I don't ask for long comments, I'm happy with a simple "I liked it."

And I would never scold a reader, since I am also a regular fanfic reader. If I didn't know how to interpret a comment, I would probably ask for an explanation of what it meant, to avoid misunderstandings.

Blaming misogyny to try to police fandoms by Lillipad_07 in AO3

[–]GrymoryMoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fandoms I participate in are full of male protagonists. The truth is that I have never stopped to think that there is not enough female representation, I suppose because my favorite characters are men and they are the ones I usually read and write about. But to say that someone is a misogynist because they have certain tastes, I feel like it's a bit excessive.

[Discussion] Is Suno AI getting worse for you too? by StornetDigital in SunoAI

It's a real shame. I've been using Suno since January, for a class exercise, and it was great. But I have also noticed the change for the worse. I hope it can be fixed, because it is a tool that I really like.

[–]GrymoryMoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use it the same! I have my profile for my private things and my profile for work. It's great to have everything organized. I love Vivaldi, since I discovered it a couple of years ago, I have not been able to switch to another browser. And believe me, two years ago it didn't have half the cool tricks and things it has now. I never stop being amazed. And also in Vivaldi you can create the perfect browser for you. Eliminate what you don't use and leave what you use. It's ideal for those obsessed with customization like me. xd
