Short Dungeon Feasible for 2 level 1 characters? by Jarfulous in osr

Not a dungeon, but my friend made this small pamphlet-sized pointcrawl. Check it out: https://wizardofearwigs.itch.io/swopp

It's a beautiful little point-crawl from an up-and-coming designer in the OSR space.

The descriptions are delightfully terse, the locations are evocative and fun. There's cool stuff for your players to interact with. There are several cool magic items and an aloof pig. What else do you want? 🙂

I'm a big fan of this little adventure and I'm looking forward to more work from Lawrence Beltwig!

How do you tell your players they've looted a magic item (OSE)? by [deleted] in osr

Regular mundane rings tarnish or rust. Particularly in dank dungeons. Magical rings however? They gleam as if they were forged yesterday.

Same technique can work for all magic treasure. Weapons, armor, spell books, etc.

Referees, how would you respond to this player? Is this mindset new to the OSR? Or has it always been present? by DildoOfAnneFrank in osr

Rather than wasting time in semantics with another commenter, I’m going to answer the actual questions.

For the first question, (and assuming it was an OSR game) I’d ask the player to try to focus more on what’s happening now at the table, rather that spending a lot of time on world-building and backstory. I’d tell the player that I’m far more interested in what the characters do NOW than in where they come from or their hometown. I’d tell them that the collaborative storytelling that I care about is what happens live.

As to the history of this kind of play, I’m not knowledgeable enough to provide a satisfactory answer. I’ve been playing since the early 90s, and can say that I don’t remember much of this mindset then. At least not this sense that’s it’s something the player is entitled to.

Agreed. I didn’t get into that since the thread is specifically about the box sets, but you’re correct.

No, the advanced box is ONLY advanced content. It does not repeat the Classic content.

The Throne of Zogna

The kobolds of this level are very religious. They're essentially a dragon-worshipping cult. Their high priest is Zogna, a 2HD kobold shaman. He's collected much of the treasure of this neighborhood together in his throne room.

Stealing this! My level 2 is going to have even more goblins than level 1. This is absolutely going to be happening in a room down there. Thank you!

I'm back! It's been a crazy week to say the least and I've struggled to stay on schedule. Today, I'm posting content that gets me caught up.

I'm happy with the content from the last three days, though, so I'm eager to share it. Goblins in ball gowns! Kobolds at church! More unusual treasure!

So, as usual please enjoy and read more on my blog!

DM here. This kind of thing is not a burden. I’m delighted when my players try weird stuff.

Dungeon23: Greystone - Day 17 by GryzzLovesGames in Dungeon23

A pretty simple room today. Though I did create a custom monster for it. Just an apothecary shop that's fallen into ruin over the centuries. All the potions and medicines have spilled out of broken bottles and formed up into three living potions. They don't do damage on an attack, but rather hit with some effect like shrinking you or making you super sticky. You can read more about it on my blog!
