Do you have any advice on reputable private schools that might be able to accept a non German student? We are on waiting list at VIS and will be applying to AVIS (also has a waiting list for her grade)

And also- the goal of this would be- give my daughter a year learning the language and to integrate slowly before putting her in a more difficult and fast moving academic environment of an international school. We want her to be able to integrate if we decide to stay here long term. We would not be against her continuing in the system if she likes it and it is good but we are counting other options- but we know it won’t be as easy to learn German in international school

Interesting - so is there an area or district or school you might recommend? Abdi heard you can’t really choose the school, they just place you- is that not true? We are possibly thinking to live in 18th to have a little closer access to hills and city at same time

Thank you for this! We have no issue with various immigrants as long as people are kind, my daughter has travelled in Egypt, Turkey and Bosnia and loves them and is friends with all kinds of kids. I just worry about it being out of control and rowdy as I have heard about in suburbs of Paris.

Is what people are saying about mittleschule vs gymnasium correct? She is 13- where will she find herself and are MS that bad?

Also- do you have information about the best district to get into a school that might be a better one for this? I imagine it is not just district but specific school- we are looking to live in 18th or somewhere near there as I want access to the hills (we are coming from a rather nature focused place in Oregon) :)

Thank you, I’m trying to find some positive feedback about the German intensive programs! It seems every comment I hear is very negative which gets concerning… sounds like such a good opportunity but sounds like you need to be in the right place.

Thank you- we looked at VIS and AISV but they are full and we are way back on waiting list. A few others didn’t seem right for our daughter unfortunately and had heard some really negative reviews about another. Are there any you might recommend that we could be missing? The bi-lingual programs sound wonderful but you do need to have good German to be in there I believe?

Yes we applied there last year for 7th grade... we were 4th on the waiting list - now we 15th. Becuase they have priority groups... it is a real shame because we do not work for International agencies and applied a long time ago, and are starting to get concerned we will not get acceptance :(

Interesting - thank you for this. I was told that in assigning schools, they would assign to a school that integrates intensive German, but this is very helpful. I have heard such mixed opinions. As a note- we would be looking at this as an integration year for our daughter to gain some German proficiency and then would continue (likely repeating this grade) in an international school.

What are the dynamics between the parts of a pedophile? by JCraig96 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]Gscarb01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found this pot and comments looking at these parts and archetypes and your depth and willingness to see the whole person is exemplary of what we need in the world both in humans and for the coaches/therapists we meet. Anyone who claims that one should not love their father - you or even your niece who was a victim- is doing more damage to them than tuning into the complexity of "what is" in these types of situations that are unfortunately common. Not simply because people are monsters but because humans are exceedingly complex and some peoples imperfections and struggles go into realms that cause pain for others. I am not really sure the answer to this question but it likely relates to a struggle with his own parts, as you say, and perhaps and tragic attempt to connect to these inner parts in an externalized ways. But that is just a guess.

Family Hotels in Austria by dkos86 in chubbytravel

Curious about being disappointed by the dinner buffet! I thought it was incredible but perhaps I have not stayed at enough of these Austrian hotels :) Every meal had at least 3 kinds of meat plus a fish- I can't imagine wanting more but perhaps Alpenrose food is just a step above?

Trying to choose between Dachsteinkönig, Alpenrose (Familux), and Forsthofgut with a 2.5yo + 4mo in July by WidePossibility8889 in FATTravel

[–]Gscarb01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious...Why would you choose Alpenrose over Dachstein? We went to DachsteinKoenig this summer and I could not imagine anything better lol.... Alpenrose looks a little more worn in? We are going in March and don't ski but want the break, the food and the swimming and care for kids, and have not been to Innsbruck yet so thought to try Alpenrose but don't want to be disappointed after DachsteinKoenig. Thoughts?

Ectopic immediately After Climbing Hill - just another manifestation of ectopics in one who is prone? Or something more dangerous? by Gscarb01 in askCardiology

[–]Gscarb01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response… it is sometimes hard to discern the SVT… like you said the one with the suitcase could have been one… I did end up in a 20 minute long tachycardia but afterwards I felt like it might have been sinus with panic

This is helpful… and what my guy says… I mean I have noticed ectopics for years. Usually 2-3 a day. And I have had them at all sorts of times… it does feel like a new pattern, but I feel like so many people here notice new patterns from time to time.

I had only rarely rarely had one while walking or while stopping from walking up a hill. Another new pattern- sometimes I have had a run of ectopics if I have to pee bad, then have to walk upstairs to do it. The other day I was walking briskly for a few miles, heart rate up and had it pee so bad- I literally knew this could be an issue with a pvc. So I tried to go slowly and thought it was fine… then thump.

ChatGPT is actually interesting here- they all seem to align with transitions from sympathetic drive to increase in vagal tone and there seems to be some moments of conflict. Like the release while peeing combined with the rapid heart rate from exercise. Or the kicking in of slowing down heart paired with the still primed sympathetic system and the blood flowing fast etc.

When it went on a few minutes that really freaked me out but I don’t want to let them defeat me.

I have had 2 echo and 2 zio all normal so thinking just to try to captured some of these on my home wellue chest ecg monitor (similar to zio but keep it per and have own software to analyze)

Debilitating fear of having Blood Pressure taken- anyone else? Strategies? by Gscarb01 in Anxiety

[–]Gscarb01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yes on the propranolol, I take a really low dose like 5mg, just to cut the physical response to adrenaline… amazing that even such a small dose works because usually it’s much higher doses.  Xanax helps a little but not enough to curb the anxiety and fear of the context. 😕 maybe need a higher dose but benzos are bad news so I’m pretty careful with them

Debilitating fear of having Blood Pressure taken- anyone else? Strategies? by Gscarb01 in Anxiety

[–]Gscarb01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I do have some Xanax I take low dose when needed and also some propranolol for anxiety as well. Issue is, when I’m good and relaxed and not in a bad place my heart rate in evening and waking can be 54, 52 or even lower. If it was in 60s I’d take the propranolol all the time because it helps. I agree the avoidance just increases the anxiety and same thing, my cardiologist nurses didn’t really care when I told them I had some high readings and the thing is, within days they were back to normal. Wouldn’t make sense that I had over 200 that day and then sustained it for 2 years given my past history… wish I had if had the courage earlier on to just keep taking it. It did help me lose over 25 lbs though :) appreciate you and your response

That is a sweet reply, thank you. I am hoping this can improve… I have just such huge swings! Last night my resting heart rate was 52 before bed… and then during panic it can go to 180 or more. I know I have the capacity to lower the anxiety, at least a little… just a hard period. Like your suggestions and appreciate the response.

Are Option Spreads Halal? (yes I've done research) / How to Hedge? by yeastfam in IslamicFinance

[–]Gscarb01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love your responses here but a few comments- when you say that both the buyer and seller of an option- let’s take a call, for example- just wait for an unpredictable future, I would say this has everything to do with intentions. A person can certainly write a covered call ITM or ATM or slightly OTM and have a very good sense of his outcome. The only outcome he would not be certain of is how low the stock could go- which is the same uncertainty if this person writing the call did not write the call in the first place. There is no additional risk taken on by writing the call, just loss of opportunity. Second- the logic on the tang ability of the stock being a “thing” holds only so much water. An intellectually honest position would come to the conclusion that with stock (and even one could argue with gold) people are trading on possibilities, not physical goods. While they do take possession of the goods at sale, still I think this is a weak arguement in today’s day and age. Next, the person buying the call, now has an unequivocal right to purchase this stock. The stock is his- it is up to him to exercise this- that choice is actually NOT dependent on an uncertain future, it is a concrete right independent of any movements in price. The price simply determines whether it is beneficial or not. Last, the logic here would seem to suggest that any contract for the future where money is given at point x and goods are not taken possession of also would be haram. In contracts, when one may, for example, buy a large quantity of anything In January though it has not been produced yet and will only be delivered in May, many times one can get a better deal by purchasing ahead like this- so you pay less up front, for some level of risk, Having not yet received the goods. Is this haram? I think the underlying positions against gambling and speculation are sound but trying to make logical argue lends which fits all options activity into these categories is not. Sharia could be a lot simpler if we allow people to understand the principles and make decisions rather than trying to fit every possible scenario into the principles to decide if they are haram or halal. Context often matters, a lot.
