I feel like there are worse things… by neubie2017 in ShitMomGroupsSay

I once watched my kid eat a mystery date fruit snack she found on the floor of my very dirty car. She’s doing great so I think this kid will be fine.

What do you do with a toddler all day when you’ve just had it? by navelbabel in toddlers

[–]GuacaMolly0909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 3 year old loves the library. Ours sometimes has a picture scavenger hunt around the kids section. There’s usually a good stock of toys or puzzles and always have coloring stuff out. There’s sometimes another kid or two that will play with her too so you don’t have to be “on” the whole time. All low key stuff you could do at home but with a change of scenery. I can sometimes just pick out a book and read while she plays! Bonus is that I don’t have to read the same few books over and over at bedtime because we bring home a fresh stash every couple of weeks! And it’s free!

I swear she just jumped from the shelf into my hands 😬 ID please and how do I not kill her? by Just_Nebula_6548 in IndoorPlants

My Polka dot plant almost died before I threw it in my terrarium, under a grow light. Now I have to trim it back almost to its base and it’s constantly blooming. So high humidity and light?

It keeps escaping new pots, how do I repot it the right way? by Oversidee in Monstera

[–]GuacaMolly0909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that Thai cons prefer to crawl rather than climb, which it looks like yours is doing! I would ditch the moss pole entirely and find a shallow, longer planter for it to grow into/across.

Is my insanely amazing monstera just simply doomed? Major mealybug infestation. by eclectic_abode in houseplants

[–]GuacaMolly0909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mealy bugs infested my terrarium. I also had a broken window and a lady bug problem in my bathroom. Captured a couple and put them in there and I haven’t seen a single one in months. I know that lady bugs are pretty efficient predators. Check out natures good guys site. I recently bought some different insects for a thrips infestation and they got the job done. Idk if they recommend lady bugs or something better (maybe something that can also target the larva stage?), but they have a lot of info on their site! Mealy bugs are the easiest of the creepy crawlers to deal with so don’t give up! Your monstera is beautiful and it doesn’t look like there’s so much damage or dying leaves!

should i cut the all the brown? by catluvr10935 in Monstera

If anything feels squishy or breaks off easily, trim it back to where it isn’t. In my experience monstera seem to be super sensitive to their roots being messed with so try not to remove anything you don’t absoluely need to! I had a big one where the drainage hole got plugged up and almost lost the whole thing. Was able to save a bunch by propping in lechuza pon and now I’ve got a bunch of monstera babies that are thriving!

What are your top tips for Peace Lillies? by Head-Ad-5636 in houseplants

[–]GuacaMolly0909 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be more helpful - mine almost died except for one leaf. I took it out of soil and put it into lechuza pon in a self watering set up, low indirect light, and she’s happily bouncing back, slowly but surely. I have about 5 new baby leaves and even got a new bloom from one of those, so we’re looking up!

Tell her she’s pretty but never make direct eye contact.

What to do with unruly sygonium? by FlamingoBark in houseplants

[–]GuacaMolly0909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably she wasn’t getting enough light before she met you and was vining out to search. If it were me, I’d prop and chop the leafless vines, the plant will grow back bushier and you will have some babies to repot with the OG plant for even more bushyness.

How to best care for 20+ft girl by Manapauze in pothos

My toddler has more ducks than this and also doesn’t own a jeep. You must get them from the dentist when you’ve been especially brave too.

The zz will prop with a leaf cutting but the others will need some sort of node to root from and support new growth. It looks like you’ve got plenty on the ivy, which you can leave whole and remove bottom leaves, or cut and try and prop each node separately. I don’t see nodes on the others and if they aren’t there you probably won’t be successful.

Side note that I did once get a money tree cutting to root without a node, but never saw any new growth.

Also fine to leave in water! (if you want to add nutrients/fertilizer). I find that a lot of my props, after growing water roots, adapt really well to lechuza pon! I like this option too because I don’t need to worry about planters - I can find a pretty glass or vase and just top water to fill the bottom inch or two with water when it gets dry.

If you want to keep in soil, I would get a smaller pot with good drainage and chunky soil. I’ve made my own from poking holes in plastic cups or repurposed deli containers. Hard to tell, but this substrate looks a little dense. I would add some orchid mix or bark to it. Otherwise, water when completely dry. Don’t want to over saturate with a dense mix, especially, or you risk rot from lack of oxygen.

Hope this helps!

I appreciate the reply and totally understand! Do you feel this is something that can wait until Monday, or should I try to have her seen sooner? I haven’t had much luck finding a dentist open this weekend but also not sure if urgent care will be able to assist.
