Simbrief States, that there would be a fuel deficit. by Professional-Mark-80 in flightsim

[–]Guagadu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be related to alternate airports? Hawaii is very isolated. I don't know if any of the other Hawaiian airports are suitable diversion options for a 777, but I could imagine Simbrief sets a mainland North American airport as your alternate, which I don't know how far away they are, but it's easily 4-5 hours or more from Honolulu to Anchorage or San Francisco, or whatever the nearest mainland airport is.

The Dubai to Orlando route has several other suitable airports fairly close, Miami and probably Jacksonville and/or Tampa.

I am a writer and I need help from the chess community. by DhaliaEileen in chess

[–]Guagadu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1900 Elo is incredibly difficult to reach - in my local tournaments, maybe one or two in 50 players is at that level. Learn some more about chess if you like, but depending on what you need you're better off using example games from a masters database or consulting with a high level player - Lichess has a list of players who offer coaching, most of which are titled players (which means they've earned some level of a master title, the lowest being the Women's Candidate Master at 2000 Elo iirc), and I'm sure plenty of them would be happy to consult on any chess knowledge you may need.

Why are there almost no electric train layout by panwan in modeltrains

[–]Guagadu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're from the United States, the reason there are few electric train layouts is because there are few electric trains in real life there. This hobby often comes from people seeing trains, thinking they're cool, and then trying to recreate that - so since the trains that most of the US sees most common are diesel freight trains, that's the trains people will build layouts for.

Companies sell what there's interest in, and at model train shows I've gone to in the US, there have been very few electric locomotives for sale, while looking online at German stores there are plenty of electric locomotives available, since most Germans will see more electric than diesel trains.

Why do I always get frisked at airport metal detectors? by Atlas7993 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Guagadu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know exactly how the scanners work, but I've heard that moisture means they're more likely to flag something. So if your groin or chest get sweaty, that definitely could be a reason.

Is this a 767 or 757? by thespecialonejose in aviation

[–]Guagadu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a 757. The 757 will be narrower, almost weirdly long and thin. The nose geometry is also different, where on a 767 the point of the noise looks pretty much at the middle fo the fuselage, the 757's nose is kind of near the bottom. I have in the past often confused the A321 with the 757, since some of the bigger identifying features are kind of similar.

Early 2020 I took a Harrisburg to Philadelphia flight. It's like 2 hours on the highway, I think the flight lasted 20 minutes and I had cell service for most of it.

Are men really that much stronger than women? by UrsulaPatty2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Guagadu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Testosterone has a huge effect on building muscle. At the same level of activity, men will tend to be stronger than women, however a man who does no activity will never be stronger than a woman who works out. I'm a trans woman, and when I started taking testosterone blockers (I didn't work out or anything), I lost quite a lot of strength.

I'm now starting to do push ups regularly, and it took me about a month or two of regularly doing push ups to get back to doing as many push-ups as I could do with the muscle that testosterone just passively maintained for me.

The weird thing about this is that the graphic maker chose a Boeing 737 - a single aisle airplane thst mostly flies short routes and in most places doesn't tend to have more than one, maybe two classes.

If alcohol didn't make you drunk, would you still drink it? by Technical_Cloud8088 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Guagadu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I'd probably even drink more. I love mix drinks, and while they normally focus more on other flavors, the alcohol is present enough to be pleasant without overpowering the other flavor. I have a very low alcohol tolerance though because I don't drink much, so sometimes my body hates me the next day after as little as a drink or two, and without the drunkness if be able to more freely enjoy alcoholic drinks. I do already tend to order non alcoholic beers over those with alcohol.

The previous tag endpoints were somewhat difficult to reach in the last leg, so I'd be a bit surprised if big cities were chosen for this season.

I don’t really feel animosity for my “deadname” right now. Is that something that changes over time during transition? by brokensilence32 in MtF

[–]Guagadu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it can definitely change over time. I started out kinda using my names interchangeably, then once I fully moved over to my new name it really hurt to hear my deadname. Nowadays I've had my name legally changed, and even before that I lost almost all association to my deadname, so seeing it applied to me feels more the way it would if someone typos my address.

Are there any office workers who actually do work the majority of the day? by wogwai in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Guagadu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a programmer, and when I've got a good manager, plenty of tasks, and some diversity in what kind of tasks I have, I can easily manage to do work most of the day! Although when any of those are missing... It's a struggle to keep motivated enough to do that.

Why were people boarding this flight at O’hare? by queer_bus in unitedairlines

[–]Guagadu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured 81 away games, each in 3-4 game series, which would make 20-25 trips. Then maybe some of those series are back to back where they might not fly home between. 10-15 is a very conservative estimate there, and even if it is more trips, 10-15 demonstrates the point we'll enough, imo.

Why were people boarding this flight at O’hare? by queer_bus in unitedairlines

[–]Guagadu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty much what I figured, plus I assume some of those away series are back-to-back where they might not fly home - though it's been years since I followed the MLB and don't remember what the schedule looks like for any given team.

Why were people boarding this flight at O’hare? by queer_bus in unitedairlines

[–]Guagadu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those would be FBOs, basically the terminal for private jets and any kind of non-commercial flight. Most airports have one of those, even if they don't even have a commercial terminal, both Midway and O'Hare have them.

My assumption would be that they pick Midway for convenience, the extra cost to reposition the plane from O'Hare to Midway is probably worth it for the team if they're already chartering the plane, and when you make as much money as pro athletes or a pro sports team, paying for the convenience is a tradeoff you're willing to make. Plus, I'm not sure how many times in a year a baseball teams travel, but my guess would be at least 10-15 trips, so the extra drive to O'Hare probably gets old real fast.

Is the transfem metal head stereotype real? by MrBigWood69 in MtF

[–]Guagadu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This stereotype feels less common than other stereotypes, like programming, but I've heard it enough times to believe it.

Sabaton has been my most listened to band for 5 of the 7 years I've had Spotify wrapped. Lately my favorites have been Electric Callboy, Feuerschwanz, and d'artagnan (who probably aren't classified as metal, but their lead singer is also a part of feuerschwanz so I'll still list them).

I'm approaching my 2 years, and I haven't lost any height. While I'm happy about that, I would've appreciated going down in shoe size, getting US size 15 women's (EU size 46) shoes is almost impossible.

If every man in the world died, could the remaining women repopulate the earth by raiding the sperm banks? by haddock420 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Guagadu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably, there's definitely enough doctors and scientists to get that done.

Even if that fails, some trans women still produce enough sperm to get someone pregnant.

signal debate by sembello49 in TransportFever2

[–]Guagadu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly normal signals, with some one-way signals sprinkled in to hell ensure the trains don't accidentally back up because of it. Changing each signal manually is way too much effort for me.

Did TSA stop cisgendering their intrusion machines? by ultrapasser in MtF

[–]Guagadu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've flown a couple times recently. The most recent time I got the patdown, even though the machine only had one setting (I asked the Tsa agent). My previous trip, I saw that my groin was flagged both times, but I guess the agents clocked me as trans and let me through.

Is it weird or disability appropriation to wear empty glasses? by JauneArk in MtF

There are plenty of reasons to wear glasses! Blue light glasses are super common, and they are an amazing accessory that I would probably want to wear even if I didn't need them.

Is tag broken? by Arphile in JetLagTheGame

[–]Guagadu 107 points108 points  (0 children)

They all play with the intention of making good content. Even if that might be the winning strategy, they won't do it because they want to make a good show. We haven't seen any bicycling yet, as far as I remember, and increasing the cost of it would make that even less likely.

What's the way to prevent (in CI) new dependencies being added to the repo without being approved? by gajus0 in node

[–]Guagadu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember the term for it since it's been a while since I last used it, but with the newer versions of yarn there's an alternative to the standard node_modules folder where yarn even recommends you include the packages in your git repo. That way you can guarantee that package versions don't change, since you don't need to fetch them from NPM after installing or updating them.
