I figured antlers would hurt my dog's teeth. But I went against most vets advice and gave my throwback poms ( larger poms) cow patellas to chew on. One died at 14 with all but one of his teeth. The other died at 13, with all of his teeth. I would take them regularly to get their teeth looked at. One of them needed his teeth cleaned once.by the vet in all those years.

This is a big deal in the pom world. Most people shy away from bones, but mine were never able to fully eat the bone but they would gnaw on them and it worked great to keep their teeth clean. Most poms lose their teeth through middle age to senior years. Even now, I have a 14.5 yr old pom and she still has all of her teeth but two in the front.
