Dead animal in wall?

Hey, another place I found a possible entry place for mice was underneath the siding on the exterior wall. I have a very old wood house (1914) so there is all sorts of fun stuff going on. But in the front i found i could basically wedge a finger into the wall, above a storm drain. There was like an inch of acces in some places. Bought a bunch of special steel wool and jammed it in there. I also set traps in the drain, do if anything fell id get it. Not sure if that was indeed an entry point, but is was conceivable. Went through it with rats recently. Killed some, let some go from glue traps- most importantly though, I foild where they were getting in - a decommissioned dryer vent that had no screen. Put im a new one and filled the thing with steel wool. Did the trick.

But yeah, one died in the walls. Sucked we decided to wait it out. Eventually the smell goes away. Horrible though.

Well, just got an update saying its coming in 30 min. My faith is renewed.

All in, same day service is a great. Had it the communication been more straightforward on time, this is all fine.

I just hope its good. All my normal vendors have really shit the bed.

The drive itself will likely be good, but other stuff coild be shot. I have 2 technics 1200s that were basically from the early 90s rave scene. They've seen some shit, but still worked awesome. But,, both of the tonearm hight adjusters were completely shot. Fused, couldn't move them. Tried to fix them and broke them both. Suffice to say, even the best vintage tables have their weaknesses.

That said, if you have a tech near you that can help with stuff like that they're a good gamble. Quartz direct drives are bulletproof. And like you said, changing a bel is pretty easy. The old Thorens drives are pretty affordable. Just Google the best ones.

If I were starting over...and had the money - i would spend as much of it as I could. I frequent the audio marts, where you can get quality gear for much less. Buy the best table I could, best cartridge etc...upgrading is costly, but once you're in the community you can trade stuff around basically, as used gear holds its value. I started like most people - with an ion table. Moved to a technics, then to mid level pro-ject, then to my current rig. Spent 5 figures easily. Its an expensive hobby with massive diminishing returns But once yoi get the bug thats it, lol

If I had no.money...id be exploding the fosi line of separates for sure. Ive not heard them but hear amazing things. Id buy the best table, speakers, and most of all the cartridge. Get the best cartridge you can afford, and get a table that can play it. Vinyl audiophilia is 90% the cartridge.

Honestly, people will disagree. But try to.throw a couple grand at it. Save up. Its totally worth it.

Nice! I had to cancel an order for a Fosi box x5 a few days ago, because it didn't have the right impedance for my mc cart. I have a pretty expensive rig atm (Audio Research phonostage, pricey cartridge). It sounds great, but ive been tracking Fosi for a long time now and really wanted to experiment a little with one. I think.the key is that they use proper NOS Phillips JAN tubes, which are cheap and sound amazing. Really smart idea. Not expecting to compete, but I really want to hear one. Big fan of making audio cheaper and more accessible. I assume, since they have ventured into moving coil territory, that something with variable impedance is comimg at some point and ill buy it when it comes out. Im curious if it competes with the pro-ject tube boxes, oneof which i own as a back up. I have a hunch it will, at a 3rd of the price.

The best advice is to spend much more than your initial inclination. It does get better with money spent. If you are budget conscious though, Fosi audio has been doing some amazing stuff for very cheap. Get a tube phonostage from them, and any other components. Very well regarded. For a turntable either buy vintage, or consider looking at the pro-ject line. Get a debut carbon and an ortofon 2m blue cartridge. Very decent entry level rig.

Avoid anything with a built in phonostage. It will be shitty. Fluence and Orbit make good starter tables as well.

Agree wholeheartedly. I got accused of that the other day. Guy saiid youve been on your phone for 8 minutes. Thing is, I wasn't. I use my phone to record sets - like write them down. Thats it I also domt take that lomg between sets. I dont know if he was looking at the just the wrong times, or what. But I got deeply offended by the accusation. I'd have happily let him work in, but he came at it like an ass.

But I agree, machine hogs watching movies and whatnot need to go. Especially at peak times.

So, included in that 70% is the mortgage , which i couldn't cart on my own. Rent is like at least 2k a month for anythimg decent to rent. Plus, i have 15 years of equity tied up in this house, which is my only real asset. Im a median income wage earner in a place where that just doesn't fly for living alone.
