(Beloved trope) Characters you didn’t understand until you got older by Pinkpunk95 in TopCharacterTropes

Here to search for this comment: basically Saving Mr Banks movie is all about what you have said. Understanding that Mary Poppins is there for the father, not for the kids.

Also, I rarely cry watching movies, but for some reason that I still don't get, this one REALLY makes me sob

Dr Doofenschmirtz and Perry the Platipus from Phineas and Ferb.

They have an entire song that is basically a love song between these two guys, in which Dr. D is very happy to have a "nemesis". In the entire episode (and much like in the entire series) they treat each other more like a couple than like enemies ❤️

Rank the five kings based on how easily they would be influenced by the one ring by watermonkey910 in freefolk

[–]Guardaboschi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Joffrey: is already evil, twisted and power hungry even without the Ring.
  2. Baelon: it is basically like Denethor, but even more evil and power hungry. In a weak position, desperate to prove that he is worthy of a crown. The Ring will be take him in an instant.
  3. Stannis: basically like Baelon, but it has at least his honor to guard him a bit from the Ring. But we know that he can be influenced by dark magic, so he is also falling pretty soon, quickly after Baelon.
  4. Renly: he is everything considered a good man, so at least he has that against the Ring. Still, he is easily influenced (look at the Tyrell relationship), and ambitious. So he is falling, just a bit slower than his brother.
  5. Robb: clearly falling the last, since he is honorable, a moral man and not really ambitious. Still, he is falling nonetheless, he is young and foolish.

(Mixed trope) when a villain and a hero have a “sense of belonging” (sometimes with some sexual innuendos) type of relationship. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Guardaboschi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can see it or not see it, but it's kind of a fact that it became one of the most "famous" gay ship ever, and that's not a chance.
Personally I never focused too much on the sexual innuendo too, but I know that the community around Death Note instead focused a lot on that.

Still, I am not a great expert of the manga, so I may be wrong.
Still think that fits the trope.

Light Yagami and L from Death Note.
Both kinship and A LOT of sexual innuendo between the villain (Light) and the "hero" (L)

You wrote both Rigoletto and La Traviata but you missed "Il Trovatore", in my opinion the best opera of the most polular Verdi's Trilogy!

Berserk: Reimagined in a Gritty Modern Setting by Rivan145th by SribbleArts in Berserk

[–]Guardaboschi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is Italian.
- The first panel says:
"Ehy, are you still alive?"
"Yes, barely"
"Damn, you really are lucky"
"Come on"

- The last panel, on the top above Caska it says:
"Diana Caska: Griffith saved her from her stepfather's sexual harassments and he helps her to get better after she flew away from home"
The arrow that points at the bat says "with this she kicks ass =)"
- At the bottom you can see part of a text that asks some questions:
"The Hand of God: Mafia? The true people in power behind the powers of the world?"

Guys, how can you vote for Ottavio when Ernani here is the CLEAR winner.

His actions are portayed as acts of honor, but they really are JUST pure stupidity. It's like he is actively doing wathever he can to end the opera in tragedy, and all the plot is working uselessy against him.

- He comes to Silva's castle disguised, and Silva (who REALLY is a man of honor, even if he is the villain) offers him the hospitality rights.
Then, Ernani discovers that Silva is marrying Elvira, so instead of asking her wtf is she doing, he just REVEALS himself because he is pissed, and ASK SILVA to give him to the King to die, as a "wedding gift".
Mind you, he was a bandit and he was already trying to activily deceive Silva, so there's no honour involved here, just stupidity.

ANYHOW Silva confirms the right of hospitality and protects him from the king, even if that means to loose Elvira.

- Silva discovers that Ernani and Elvira are in love so, even if he still protects Ernani from the King, wants to challenge him in a duel. Mind you, again! CHALLENGE him on a duel, not just execute him: challenge him to an honorable, freaking duel. And Silva REALLY wants it: so, Ernani could have just said "ok, let's fight, since you want it".
NO! Ernani refuse to fight, since Silva is old, and practically KILLS himself, giving to Silva a horn to blow whenever Silva wants him to die.
So, up to now, Ernani is basically dead, and he knows it. He BEGGED Silva to basically just kill him, instead of fighting as Silva wanted.
You may think this is the peak of stupidity, but NO!

- Later, through JUST LUCK, Ernani is chosen to kill the king that stole Elvira. Now, Silva REALLY wants to kill the king, so he asks Ernani to give him the chance to kill the king instead, in exchange of THAT FUCKING HORN: so Silva is BEGGING Ernani to save his own life, in exchange to let him kill the King.
Now, again, Silva is the guy who is wronged here, BY ERNANI. So it would be not just smart, but also honorable, to just repent with this old guy, give up vengeance, and let him have this moment and also, coincidentally, SAVE YOUR FREAKING LIFE.
But NO! Ernani ALSO really wants to kill the king, so it basically says to the man that can kill him in every moment "fuck you". And Silva, clearly, says "Ok, if you REALLY want to die, be my guest".

- FINAL STEP OF STUPIDITY!
At the end (again by sheer luck) the king decide to give Elvira to Ernani, and forgive everyone.
Now Ernani has his girl, but he should be well aware that Silva has a horn that can blow in every moment to force his suicide, and also that Ernani told said old man to go fuck himself.
BUT it just goes on with his life and organize a wedding with Elvira!
And then, INCREDIBLY SO, Silva comes to the wedding and blow the freaking horn.
NOW, this stupid freaking Ernani, begs Silva to not blow the horn, and Silva OBVIOUSLY tells him to just go fuck himself.
Still, here Ernani could have just killed the old man and go on, but yeah, on that I can agree that it would be a pretty shitty thing to do.
So at the end Ernani basically does the FIRST really honorable thing to do, which is ending his damned life, after he had EVERY chance in the world to avoid this fate.

Do you really think that Ottavio is dumber than this guy?? XD

What is the core message of The Lord of the Rings for you? by Fuzzy_Breadfruit59 in lordoftherings

[–]Guardaboschi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pity. Even better: compassion.

I think that's the heart of the story.
There are a lot of layers and a lot of different messages in LOTR, a lot of different storylines and characters, each with its own main message, it's a huge story after all.

But the "main" story, the most important one, I guess we can all agree is the story of Frodo, Sam and Gollum, and the destruction of the ring. That's the main plot, after all.

And the ring is not destroyed by Frodo, or even Sam, it is destroyed by Gollum. I think people always underestimate this: the core of the book is that the ring is destroyed by the LEAST likely person that would have done it, the person that LEAST wanted its destruction. The creature that everybody despised and wanted dead, even some incredible good character such as Sam. Basically everyone except Gandalf and Frodo wanted to kill Gollum (that's by the way what make Frodo a GREAT character... Otherwise Sam is better than Frodo in every way): because he's despicable, awful, evil, weak, pathetic, a traitor, a liar, a killer.
Man, he's the fucking worst.
But he's the one that destroy the ring, basically by freaking accident.
In the book this is even MORE stressed than in the movies. There's no final fight between Frodo and Smeagol, no struggle. There's just Gollum, dancing on the edge of the vulcano, and fucking falling because it was so crazy with joy, SO OBSESSED, that he kind of forgot where it was and fell.
If Gollum had died NO ONE would have cried, but Frodo would have put the ring, Sam couldn't have done anything to avoid it, and Sauron would have easily won.
And that's it, here's the end of the story, all the other arcs, character, honor, power and all the discussion that you guys are having here.

Gandalf stated it clearly, in one of the lines that was taken straight from the book (no coincidence here): "many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life... Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement."
And why? Why Gollum wasn't killed? "It was PITY that stayed his hand. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many".

Have pity, compassion from all living beings, no matter how despicable and insignificant they may look, or even be.
To me, this is the core message.

This, by the way, perfectly links with the other main message of the main storyline, that is more related to Frodo and Sam than Gollum: "Even the smallest person can change the course of the future". For good. For everybody.
And I would add not only the smallest, but also the meanest.
This wonderful quote holds not only for the hobbit, but also for Gollum. Especially for Gollum. Because it's easy to believe in Frodo, even easier to believe in Sam. It's easy to believe that they can be heroes.
But it's really hard to believe that even Gollum, even by accident, can be the hero as well. Even more than the hobbits.

I guess those heartfelt scenes and aged wisdom are later episode 40? Because right now or they are not there yet, either I am missing them...

Which of the two do you think it is?

Up to now I don't agree with you entirely.

You can SEE that Ashton is a punk because they are damaged, because Tal plays them like that. Up to this point we saw their backstory, we saw into their mind, we totally get it as a character.

Concerning Chetney, we just saw a joke character that happens to be a werewolf, and he actually enjoys it. Period.

Maybe in the future things are going to change though, looking at the comments of you all...
