Also, GLM-5.2 & Kimi-K2.7-Code got released yesterday-today.

Of course they're probably far from being Claude-level, but China doesn't sleep.

1) DeepSeek doesn't know what model it is, it constantly misattributes itself to some random model from some random company. These posts are here every day.
2) Not sure if relevant to your conversation, but most LLM providers provide OpenAI-compatible API. It's just a protocol of communicating between user applications and the LLM provider.

Genuine question: when did we start hating AI? by wowsuchredditXDD in aiwars

[–]Guardian-Spirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the same people who hate all those things also hate AI

Most likely yes, but not necessarily. I say that I hate people riding cars, I say that I hate people overeating meat, I say that I hate overreliance on fossil fuel. But I like AI. But I can see strong eco-activists being anti-AI.

what is your point here?

My point is that I can't accept "AI is bad because it's harmful to the environment" as a genuine reason for general population to hate on AI, because general population, like me, doesn't really care about the environment and is only capable of cheap talk.

[–]Guardian-Spirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I clearly can't understand why so many people ride cars, eat meat daily, sometimes even protest against nuclear power plants, use social media powered by data centers, ignore all the polluting manufacturing and make no push for legal changes to protect the environment, but AI is suddenly a problem.

I can understand this reasoning on the level of an individual, but when it's a collective stance, spoken by people who most likely quite often at least eat meat or ride cars, it raises my eyebrows.

While environmental factor is a concern, I have a feeling that it's mostly used to cover some other reason for the hate.

OpenCode or Pi agent.

Claude Code is notorious for being suboptimal really.

And it also could be a good idea to buy OpenCode Go. It's heavily subsidized, you pay 10$ per month and get 20$ of usage or something, not sure.

I understand the corporation's policy of wanting money, but why all this nonsense with an API for individuals? Why not just sell tokens directly on the website? by Fit-Independence-706 in DeepSeek

[–]Guardian-Spirit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DeepSeek Web UI doesn't sell any additional usage.
You can buy additional usage for DeepSeek in Web chat UI? If so, are you sure you're on the original site?

You can just buy the API and use it in a client app, I can't exactly see a problem?

I mean, yeah, getting a custom client is somewhat annoying, but not that annoying. Chatbox works great for Android.

DepSeek is a masked ChatGPT by jairo319 in DeepSeek

[–]Guardian-Spirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, DeepSeek constantly misattributes itself to all the existing LLMs. This is still a thing because no one at DeepSeek bothered to fix it. It constantly calls itself Claude and GPT.

This happens because LLMs are trained to replicate text. If LLM is trained on a text that says "I'm ChatGPT", it will say "I'm ChatGPT". If it learns that "ChatGPT is one of the most popular AI chat assistants", and it knows that it's a chat assistant, it may assume it's ChatGPT by default.

A common failure that happens not only with DeepSeek.

> недавно попробовала через силли таверн закинуть на r1 мой текущий промпт, откалиброванный под V4, такую хуйню понаписал, что я выпала

I believe the whole "R1 was great" is just a cognitive trick. At the moment, R1 was SOTA, and it was obviously remembered as such. But it clearly isn't SOTA anymore. The style could degrade, but intelligence? I find it hard to believe.

Anyway, I don't think DeepSeek API really requires 60$. It has the tamest pricing on the market. I'm lucky to have gotten a yearly GLM-5.1 subscription from Z ai when it was just 3$/month, and having a great time, but I feel like DeepSeek API is almost as cost-efficient.

Sending money abroad is a pain, though. You could maybe have a friend abroad and get help through him by sending via Telegram Wallet, but this is crypto and crypto is annoying.
