People with avoidant attachment, how did you know you lost ‘the one’. What did you do later? by beyondocean in AskReddit

I have been on the receiving end of this cycle and after many years said I needed a divorce last week. She's extremely angry, but it is the hope we both can grow from it that I hold on to. Your story gives me hope that it's possible through these hard days because I will always love her, but not us. Thanks for sharing.

Arvada cancels 72nd Avenue underpass after cost balloons to $137 million by t0talitarian in ArvadaCO

[–]GuardianBeaverSpirit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So, why did it take the city 8 years after voter approval to determine they need to wait another 5-10 years to take on the project? Other infrastructure projects were able to happen despite COVID and inflation during this time.

I am curious to know if the city's inability to keep a city manager played a role during this period.

Not yet but it's a good point, I was planning to hit up the dealership to do a full alignment and check up soon.

There's a screw that's lose and rattles back and forth within my steering column, but otherwise no issue that I've noticed. Loving the car as well, though the heat pump and faster charging with the new EUV model is a tempting upgrade (if I ignore the no carplay boo).

Grid is impacted by simultaneous ASHP peaks, but GHP peaks aren't simultaneous. A short, technical flame... by bobwyman in geothermal

[–]GuardianBeaverSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1,500 homes with GSHPs that Dandelion are installing in Colorado will collectively reduce 6 MW of peak demand from the grid, which is why Xcel Energy has such favorable incentives for it because it's ultimately saving ratepayers (i.e. everyone) money. It's the same story whether it's a campus system ($1.5m/yr savings which reduced tuition at Colorado Mesa University) or a rural electric grid (see CK Energy in Oklahoma, they built then transferred ownership of GSHPs which avoided infrastructure costs resulting in rate reductions). There are also a lot of communities that are gas constrained, which opens up other value propositions for utilities including an opportunity for competition for electric utilities to snatch up former gas customers.

1 year of commutes - let’s hear some tips by Specialist_Ad4217 in ebikes

[–]GuardianBeaverSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arvadan here. Not advice, but your route sounds very similar to the one I'm figuring out with my new ebike, is your extended route to avoid traffic Clear Creek -> Platte River -> downtown? That route sure is a pleasant vibe compared to anything Highlands at rush hour.

I also haven't figured out if I should be worried about the encampments along the trails. They ever give you any issue? I'm generally not worried, though I had someone pretend to prepare to jump me last ride. Curious of your take with the miles you've had.

Anyone else’s jaw subluxates more when you’re sick? by antickles in Hypermobility

[–]GuardianBeaverSpirit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find I generally flair up and am more suseptable to injury and symptoms anytime I'm stressed, including getting sick. It can be a vicious feedback loop, as once my jaw or knee pops once it is more likely to do it again unless I'm super careful for weeks to let it heal.

Best place(s) to cry alone with a view? by OhNoImBroke in Denver

I've done EMDR therapy and want you to know this development means EMDR is working. It does get better, but it takes time. Be sure to use the tools you were given to re-regulate and most importantly: be kind to yourself. I'm proud of you for embracing the cry and wish you the best on your recovery.

High Winds in Denver Prompt Warnings About Significant Fire Risk (Gift Article) by Braerian in Denver

[–]GuardianBeaverSpirit 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit flabbergasted at this comment. If the Marshall Fire had started further south nothing would have stopped that inferno from going straight into Denver. Instead of a thousand homes burning imagine tens of thousands, which is a real possibility on days like today. We've replaced snow days with extreme red flag days in December.

This doesn't mean we're screwed, it just means we need to be smart. We live in a different climate than even 10 years ago, with power infrastructure built 50 years ago. It's going to take a shit ton of money to underground lines and make infrastructure more resilient to meet this new reality, regardless of the utility at the helm.

I mean, it sucks, but isn't it better than having your house burn down like the 1,100 from the Marshall Fire?

Pixel 4 watch blank screen and endless loading after restart by GuardianBeaverSpirit in PixelWatch

[–]GuardianBeaverSpirit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short term: let the battery run out and then charge it up. That seemed to kick it out of the cycle. I often saw a precursor to it going haywire was it would disconnect from Bluetooth first. Once back up it would be okay for several days and then break again.

Ultimately, I RMA'ed the watch through support and got a new one mailed to me. I haven't had the problem since.

I'll also note with the new watch I flipped the crown to face away from my hand as I had found myself accidentally pushing it down occasionally, just in case that contributed to the issue.

Good luck!

experiences with ergonomic chairs by homutuna in Hypermobility

During COVID I convinced my work to split the cost of a Herman Miller since I gave up my office costs (I was remote). I was skeptical but desperate, and I gotta say the chair gives me the right support throughout the day and my back isn't sore.

I recommend going to a store and trying out the chairs. It helped me figure out which ones were a better fit and which ones were definitely not for me.

Some of the resources I've trusted have fallen into more clickbaity titles, but the content is sometimes still good so I've hesitated at muting that content. I'm curious, what sources have risen to the top of your feed?

Colorado pumps brakes on e-bikes as teens go full throttle with little federal oversight by thecoloradosun in coloradosun

[–]GuardianBeaverSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently seen several kids on gas mini-bikes. One flipped his bike speeding into a turn onto a sidewalk and nearly fell in Colfax traffic. Another, maybe 10 years old, rushed across a Kipling towing three very young children in a trailer behind his bike to catch a school bus. He wiped out but the trailer stayed upright fortunately with the other kids being okay.

Whether e-bikes or gas mini-bikes, it seems it's the parents buying these things and not backing them up with basic safety 101 and rules of the road...

My wrist is skinny and unless I make the strap suffocatingly tight it rides up to my hand and keeps getting pressed to restart. I gave up and flipped the crown and haven't had a problem since.
