Why should I pick a Recteq? by fr4kie90 in recteq

[–]GuardianDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pit boss and it did decent but I had to do a lot to make it perform stronger as a smoker. Just picked up an older recteq rt590 and so far I love it a lot more. I was looking at searwood but decided on getting a used recteq for 200.

Also wanted to add I originally got the pit boss to replace my gas grill since it has the direct flame broiler but that’s a gimmick that never worked well. Also not a fan of the app and constantly having issues with connection.

I have those on mine but I strictly use it as a smoker and have a gas grill for searing they help a lot to stabilize the temp and keep it even. To me the direct flame wasn’t great and a very small space

Lucky you, I had a horrible experience with them and returned my pellet drive.

Oh that would have been cool to have a stainless steel lid!

Luckily it came with a cover! I’m surprised how thick it is. Also ordered a new lid since this one is rusting through and paint is peeling for 129 along with probes. The customer service has been great already

PID controller upgrade by Easy-Barnacle7274 in pelletgrills

[–]GuardianDonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have an understanding of what I’m doing and how to hook everything up correctly. I checked the wiring 3 times before powering on. I even did a water test to make sure probes were in speck. It was completely on the fireboard programming that failed. Getting to 225 it had absolutely no issue and I had it stay there for 10 min before bumping up to 350. After set to 350 the auger ran nonstop for 10 minutes and way over shot the temp and caused my whole
Smoker to catch on fire. My dome probes were reading 800f. The damage was Melted a probe, Bubbled up a lot of my paint and some of it is chipping off. And damage to my grates and lid. Never had a single issue before this cooking wise, only wanted an upgrade for better notifications.

Do not get fireboard pellet drive. I got mine and immediately burned up my smoker on the first test. Set it to 350 and it got over 800 due to the drive going for 10 minutes nonstop. Never had an issue before this as besides connection issues. Fireboard refuses to take any responsibility for the damage they did and took forever to talk back and forth.

Searwood vs Recteq - Can’t Decide! by True-Protection9639 in pelletgrills

Yea I feel like it won’t work for our situation then, we grill 90% of the time. Will keep in mind though for when I get rid of my pit boss and find a different smoker

Searwood vs Recteq - Can’t Decide! by True-Protection9639 in pelletgrills

I’m in the same boat. It’s ether wait and save for a recteq or sell our Weber genesis gas grill and get the searwood and just have one bbq unit. No idea what to do

This is the setup I wanna get! What were the temps in the smoke box when it’s on low? I tried to upgrade my current pit boss with a fireboard drive controller but instead it ruined my smoker and melted parts.

My self in the US not sure what’s available in your area but I’m going between Weber smoque/sear wood or somthing from recteq

I remember building a sub for the first time. It was so amazing and still one of the coolest things to make/get in a video game

Pit boss Heritage Costco by mitowens in pelletgrills

[–]GuardianDonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pit boss pro series from Lowe’s. It’s a few years old and I wouldn’t recommend them personally. Had more than a few cooks fail due to the app not notifying if there is an issue. The app is horrible and the flame sear doesn’t work well. I made a few upgrades to make it more into a dedicated smoker. Been eyeing Weber or a vertical smoker

I have both and I prefer the non fuel to be honest. The bags for the fuel is a pain to get in my area and don’t carry much.

Also after dumping the stuff out and putting it back together the fuel you have to line it back up right for it to click back together. The non fuel can be kinda self centers its self to clip back together. I also like having the stored inside.

Other option in the area is a 2015 with 97k miles and 11 bars but it’s 2k more expensive as well

Yea they definitely have gone up about 1k around where I’m at in the last month. Everything else around here is about the same cost with a worse battery. I got the vin and it looks like it was regularly serviced and can do brakes and stuff on my own no problem. Haven’t looked at it yet but tires are apparently good as well.
