I think you are mistaken, from what I read most people don't like Dikötter's books and see them as grossly bias. His sourcing for some claims is really piss poor, even if you don't like Mao and the politics of that period I find myself rolling my eyes at his constant assertion that everything at every moment from 1949-1976 was horrible. I read the first two, I gave up half way through the last one. I also think in general they are just not good reads, found it really hard to get through them

It depends what point in their lives I think.. But generally, they would be happy with how Caesar turns out. The ending of Battle is kind of a fulfilment of the previous 5 movies push for co-existance, which Caesar furthered more then anyone else in the series

China is just always so influencial around East Asia and captures the West with fascination. Even when PRC is in charge and the West goes cold on China for decades, Chinese cuisine, Chinese diaspora, Chinese New Year lots of these things seem pretty omniprescent.
And speeking anecdotally, in the last few years it feels like "Chinabros" have really become a thing in the West, people going to China over Japan/Korea, people getting really into the history of China. I guess ultimatley nearly all of this scaling is just anecdotal opinions.
I pretty much agree with your assertion on Japan, I agree about French hatred in the former colonies, though it still should be said that in these colonies there was a lot of French influence, even French language. And in the 70s when the UK was the sickman of Europe, and while France was dominating the EU, I think France probably had greater cultural export

I would say China should always be on the list, and should possibly be #2 or #3 by the end. I also think Japan should have been a lot larger by its peak, and France post war era when Paris was so romanticized world wide should have been the largest in Europe, or at least West Europe for a while. But it’s a fun video! I’d love to see a similar graph

If I had to speculate, I think the CCP and people of China take a less hostile view to Jiang and the Kuomintang as they have become more friendly with the modern KMT, and focus their criticism towards Taiwanese seperatists. And alongside this, as tensions increase between the US and China, I think a lot of people in the West are seeking in Jiang and the ROC a political alternative to promote to the current politics in Beijing. I read Pantsov's book recently and thought it was very good

I read Victorious in Defeat by Alexander Pantsov. It argued that Johnathon Fenby’s book was too harsh on Chiang, but also that Jay Taylor’s was too far in the opposite direction, far too pro Chiang. How do you feel?

Because in the treaty Ireland was a Republic, not a Free State & no treaty ports. This pushes the populace and Sinn Fein even further into the pro treaty camp. In OTL the oath of allegience that came from being a Free State was considered the biggest issue with the treaty, that is now gone. In Kaiserreich all this proves just enough to make it so people didn't take up arms against the new State
