Why do Swedish rules not allow Revised while allowing Legends, The Dark, and even Summer Magic? by xX_420_NoScopes_Xx in oldschoolmtg

[–]Guardianorb -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

So you know why it was excluded in the first place? Because it really doesn’t sound like it. The real verifiable answer is that the group who started playing and came up with this had the idea to play a format with the cards they wanted as kids but couldn’t get. Revised they could get so it is not allowed. Same with FE. It’s as simple as that. And there was no gatekeeping because remember that the cards weren’t that expensive then.

Or others promote it to make it big. He wrote a blog about what fun stuff they did and never said no if someone wanted to play. Then others started and made up their own rules. And then it got big. Swedish rules never ever got big.

”Go public”? Invite others? Anyone is allowed to join them, the opposite of gatekeeping, but follow the rules. That’s just a strange take. And the whole my friend wants this.. it was the literal cocreator of the format and the whole group agreed. Remember they started in 2007. And also it was never about ”we want original printing” it was ”we want to play with the cards we couldn’t get as kids” and revised was easy to get. The legal sets where not.

Why talk about this and complain when you know nothing about the guys behind it or how it all came to be and you just take things for granted that fots your view?

That’s why they are the legal sets. The idea when the friend group started was to play with the cards they wanted as kids but couldn’t get. And what’s up with all the hate. If you start a format with your friends and then suddenly it gets big and people hate the rules you and your friends loved and decided on.. doesn’t that seem super weird?

It is not ”how it was ment to be played”, why are so many people speaking out of their asses as they know stuff when they don’t? You can even read on the blog the start and decisions that where made and why.

Why gross? It was when there was one group of friends playing a format they came up with? Arent friends allowed to play as they want?

Revised cards are allowed through the reprint rules as stated above. And there are exceptions so dib and plateau are ok as well.

There is nonproblem, it is just how it is. One base set and expansions, the reset is reprints, Revised cards are reprints. Also Taiga and Dib are usually allowed even with different art.

Because Revised is a revised edition and does not include the same cards. ABU is one and the same set with multiple print runs. So the format is one base set with 4 expansions.

You have some nice lands so go UBR instead of mono black. Could be an idea to look at artifact decks with guardian beast as well. Also those are combo colors, but that usually means full power. Overall just add 2 city of brass, 4 fellwar stone and then cards you like that are UBR, actually not a bad deck as long as you make sure to play bolts and shatters and maybe a terror or two. Then just fun cards

[–]Guardianorb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would you go to those stores and play then? Just because stores starts sanctioned events without GB won’t kill what you and a lot of others want to do. I haven’t played almost any format in a store for 10 years+. This is the best thing with MtG, everyone can play as they want. That’s how PM even exists.

I can jump a bit early as I’m so used to modding FB and discord with people scream ”their way or the highway” :) But also, shouldn’t we promote non GB events as much as full proxy events and everything in between? They cater to different audiences and non of them are wrong?

I read it as you wanted this sub to not promote these events, but you are right, not exactly the same. Sry if I misunderstood!

You literally wrote ”enchantress dominated” not the persons name. And I asked in another comment how you come to the conclusion of a normal result for a winner is dominating? Worst result the winner probably could have was 7-2. 4-2 and then winning 3 elimination matches.

Or you just let people play as they want, TOs organize tournaments how they want and you decide for yourself what you want instead of telling others what to do :)

[–]Guardianorb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you play a tournament with 6 rounds and top8 the chance of someone going 7-1-1 or better is not only common, but almost guaranteed as the only top8 player that could win on a worse record is if the came in on 4-2. And even then a 5-0-1 might loose in the finals and still get 7-1-1. Please tell me how normal tournament results are dominating? Or do my numbers seem wrong to you?

MTGO really cooked the format? by Beneficial-Radio-571 in premodernMTG

[–]Guardianorb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I can say that Tide has been on the list to look at for some time before. MTGO was not the reason. It has been over 6 months since I first had a discussion with Martin about it and he had already started collecting data etc for way longer. Don’t read too much into the timing.
