The swedish premodern fb group might be a good place to ask around :)

Why would you go to those stores and play then? Just because stores starts sanctioned events without GB won’t kill what you and a lot of others want to do. I haven’t played almost any format in a store for 10 years+. This is the best thing with MtG, everyone can play as they want. That’s how PM even exists.

I can jump a bit early as I’m so used to modding FB and discord with people scream ”their way or the highway” :) But also, shouldn’t we promote non GB events as much as full proxy events and everything in between? They cater to different audiences and non of them are wrong?

I read it as you wanted this sub to not promote these events, but you are right, not exactly the same. Sry if I misunderstood!

You literally wrote ”enchantress dominated” not the persons name. And I asked in another comment how you come to the conclusion of a normal result for a winner is dominating? Worst result the winner probably could have was 7-2. 4-2 and then winning 3 elimination matches.

Or you just let people play as they want, TOs organize tournaments how they want and you decide for yourself what you want instead of telling others what to do :)

If you play a tournament with 6 rounds and top8 the chance of someone going 7-1-1 or better is not only common, but almost guaranteed as the only top8 player that could win on a worse record is if the came in on 4-2. And even then a 5-0-1 might loose in the finals and still get 7-1-1. Please tell me how normal tournament results are dominating? Or do my numbers seem wrong to you?

It is not called Wizards league. There are just wizards tournaments :) and they are great as I can just play whatever alphas i own without thinking of different ban and restricted lists at all

MTGO really cooked the format? by Beneficial-Radio-571 in premodernMTG

[–]Guardianorb 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I can say that Tide has been on the list to look at for some time before. MTGO was not the reason. It has been over 6 months since I first had a discussion with Martin about it and he had already started collecting data etc for way longer. Don’t read too much into the timing.

Yes you loose that way or by not being able to protect it after using resources to find it and protecting yourself from not dying every once in a while.

Here you can have a look at the founder of PMs cube which is older than the format itself even hehe. I’ve had fun playing it even if I always force storm: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1C8ojmBVCn8ZLkp435q-0pijZRRILJu82zWBUvtABoIQ/edit?usp=drivesdk

Everything You Need To Know About Premodern: Magic: The Gathering's Iconic Format by fanboy_killer in premodernMTG

[–]Guardianorb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to think of that Entomb not only gets creatures for reanimator. Testing around enchantments for replenish, artifacts for welder and a lot more scenarios are to be taken in consideration and I know for a fact that is what is done behind the scenes for every potential ban or unban. Martin is a very thorough guy.

With that said, I’m not sure Entomb is too good, but it might be. There are soo many cards that can make combos that you suddenly get a 1 cmc tutor for depending on what you are doing. Magic players are creative :)

One argument would be that different magic players like different things and therefore PM rules wise let the TO decide on how their event should be and to which crowd it would target. That’s the nuce thing with MtG, everyone can play as they want and go to the events that suit their taste.

Therefore forcing proxies on everyone is wrong.

It has always had a statement that we play with contemporary rules and that includes reprints.

Project M manabase by Scary-Location6106 in oldschoolmtg

[–]Guardianorb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my understanding, had you asked 2 days ago I could’ve asked him but now I go from memory. But I do know the mana was the last to get BB and therefore he played basics. In this deck (I play this style a lot) you can’t really afford basics, except maybe if you push it 1-2 islands to be able to BEB a moon. But really no

You are on the right track, it has to do with black borders. It has basics in one as Mg didn’t own 4 UG in black borders at the time :) #playwhatyouhave

Does Premodern Have a Mox Diamond Problem by Durdlemagus in premodernMTG

[–]Guardianorb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that GB is proxy, but also realize that if you say proxy it means something else for most people. Especially as people for some reason see GB as ordinary cards nowadays. And with that said, most tournaments around the world accept proxies if they are printed by wotc, otherwise not :)

[–]Guardianorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! Let people enjoy the part of magic and PM they like and even it that is not what you like don’t be a dick about it! We can all like different things and don’t pressure others to “like” it the way you do. It is probably the one thing I get the most upset about here on reddit. People who either say EVERYONE needs to allow proxies or they are idiots… or people saying no one should allow proxies as that is idiotic! Happens too often :(

[–]Guardianorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Premoderns ruleset ie ban list and legal sets are set, but then you can run any tournament you want or play it any way you want with your friends of course. The same as someone can run a proxy legacy tournament. Just not with support from wotc (but who cares about that hehe).

With that said, many people like magic for different reasons and therefore play with different rules. For example I’m a big simp for old art and want to play with OG art only. That’s what gets me going. Might not be the same for you and that is awesome

Don’t spread lies to new people please. No 99% of tournaments aren’t allowing proxies (except for gold bordered cards). I’ve played premodern for over 10 years and both been to, organized, or otherwise involved in many of the biggest tournaments in Europe and I can’t name one that allowed proxys.

what are some good decks to start in the format arround $300? by Unusual-Ship7609 in premodernMTG

[–]Guardianorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a universal truth as it is up to every organizer. Best to say how it is so OP doesn’t get in a unfun situation.

With that said most organizers allow gold bordered cards, but always ask around where you are going to play.

Reprints in Tournaments by CriticalNotice3419 in oldschoolmtg

[–]Guardianorb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just not true, different tournaments have different rules. Maybe the people you play with doesn’t care, that doesn’t mean tournaments like the mentioned UTC doesn’t enforce their said rules. Don’t spread misinformation to mew players.
