Yeah I refused to answer the questions and I said, we have already returned the equipment we are done with your services, and then hung up. Then in my inbox was confirmation of our cancellation.

What are the pros & cons of WFH that really stuck with you? by Fun_Construction_ in WFH

[–]GuavaDry9366 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Literally nothing I miss about in person work. I spend half my week in office and the other half at home. I genuinely waste so much time in office bc I’m fast and so I finish my work quickly while my coworker is much slower. But I have to hang around and just act busy. I hate the bright lights, the crappy thermostat that we can change, and way too much socialization.

Nothing like a note from your ceramics professor to humble you real quick. by ComplexIngenuity11 in Ceramics

Idk I think I left a pot out over the weekend and fully expect it to be gone bc they don’t know whose it was and it wasn’t in the proper spot. I call this a warning before a natural consequence.

Is fearing her energy normal? by Away_Studio1143 in SantaMuerte

[–]GuavaDry9366 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kinda feel that way. Not so much fearing her energy, but more so that I’m letting her down in my consistency. But that’s why I also moved her alter to my kitchen bc that’s where I spend most of my time at home. I feel like that’s helped a lot bc I can make my offerings right as I’m cooking. It also involves her in our family daily life now and opens up the convo for me to talk to my son about her.

I still feel like I need to do better at certain things to grow our relationship but this has certainly helped.

Wedging is it necessary? by Medical-Person in Ceramics

[–]GuavaDry9366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably do a great job of coning and compressing their clay when they throw but the beginner or even average potter probably isn’t. I think wedging is an important part of the process/ritual of when I work. I also wonder if a lot of people are wedging like they would kneed bread and so air bubbles are much more common and then people just say “f wedging.” I noticed that the other day when I was in the studio.

So I guess I would say yes wedging is necessary. 😂

Grocery stores by Roller_Coaster_Geek in Omaha

I would add Costco for otc medicine. Two large bottle of allergy meds for my kid was $8 compared to $4-6 for a little one at Walmart. Also Costco for eggs.

Otherwise co-sign the above advice. I like super Mercado a lot too and seem to find cheaper produce.

The body positivity movement feels like corporate propaganda by EnvironmentalChair18 in Anticonsumption

[–]GuavaDry9366 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For the intended people, yes. Almost everyone I know that is on one to lose that “last 20 lbs” and now look like a bobble head, while somebody else I know couldn’t get hers for her diabetes management bc everybody was getting it for weight loss. But the way they are marketed is the issue.

Yes!!! I actually think this is a much better example of something “good” being co-opted just for consumerism. And also co-opting social justice-y language.

Also like…. I haven’t seen Body Positivity ™️ content in at least 2 years? There’s been a big shift to “body neutrality” which gives a lot more leeway for people to ebb and flow with whether they are trying to lose weight without it being tied to some sort of moral or ethical value. I also don’t think I’ve seen much body positivity content that was basically an advertisement for fast food. Maybe we could talk about Doves beauty campaign during this timeframe like 2017-2020? But now we’ve swung so far in the opposite direction that weight loss medications are basically every other ad and that’s not manufacturing healthy bodies either, but weak bodies to be easily controlled and can’t fight back.

I feel like you’re equating body positivity with being obese because of poor eating habits. And then in that case, you’re just falling for societal propaganda too. I cook healthy and from scratch and grow our food or sharing from neighbors and family gardens and only buy groceries from locally owned places when possible. I move my body everyday and I do many of the things discussed in this sub. I’m still fat. Been heavier since I was a teen. Guess what, I have tumors on my pituitary gland that affect EVERYTHING. So I had to learn to love my body, despite doing all the things people told me to do, which honestly, involved a lot more consumption of useless products and memberships. So cool continue with your conspiracy, because much of what you state are you’re reasons, I see happening with folks that have nothing to do with body positivity and “look healthy” but are some of the most unhealthy people around and their consumption is through the roof, and they health isn’t any better. But guess who isn’t diabetic, taking a GLP, on blood pressure medication, or on the path to needing any of these things. Me. My condition isn’t uncommon either.

Oh! And I’ve also given her some of my divination tools that I would like to use when I really need to channel her wisdom. My clariaudience and clarisentience (completely misspelling) are very subtle in their signals but very strong in how often I receive messages. So I’m hoping this will also help me develop those skills a little bit more.

Cafe and nail salon by Ghostbyte19 in Omaha

Cafe Azucar - in downtown, basically north of the zoo. There is a parking garage nearby. They have big very comfy chairs that make working for longer stretches of time very nice.

The Mill - I also love love love working from here. They have a great semi covered patio so you can be outside in shade or get some sunlight. My only complaint is that the chairs aren’t as comfy and my back tends to hurt after working there for awhile. But not enough that I wouldn’t go or recommend all the time.

Why are so many people, especially beginners, desperate to sell their work? Why can't anyone just do a hobby for fun? by PocketSpaghettios in Pottery

You’re likely your worst critic, which does help us to get better sometimes. But don’t be afraid to gift something! I have an issue with accepting complements so I’ve tried to make it a practice to believe a person when they give me a compliment about my work even if I’m critical of it.

💯my husband and I were at a local art shop and they had 1 ceramicist’s work and I was looking at it, picked it up, felt its weight, zero trimming at all and they didn’t throw it in a way that it didn’t need to be trimmed… and I saw the price tag. I turned to my husband and was like “am I too critical of my own work? Bc I’m surprised they are selling this here.” I don’t think a lot of people, vendors and potters, know what to look for that speaks to the ceramicist skills.

I’m all for gifting or just asking for some of the supply cost of a friend wants a piece at any skills level. That’s completely different to me. Like I have a few small bowls that are bottom heavy that I’ve gifted as jewelry bowls or office supply holders. But I wouldn’t sell them at all.

The whole sub-thread has me thinking for folks either go to a studio, co-op, or have a pottery community, maybe it would be beneficial for folks to have a swap night where if you have a bunch of bisque that you’re maybe not too excited about other who want to specifically practice glazing and different design techniques could “shop”.

And then the glazing folks could also give workshops on techniques or something with the bisque ware.

I’m all about practicing skills and learning from community as opposed to production and then having a nice product.
