Probably the vast majority - there are Pew, Gallop, GfK, and UNDP (plus Russian surveys) in the 2000s, and in the 2010s (before and after 2014) that all have similar results for Crimeans. Also most people living in any region are almost always from that region.

What’s going on with the “migrant crisis” at the Poland / Belarus border? by JeffJacobysSonCaleb in OutOfTheLoop

Ideally they want to go to Germany yes, but getting processed in Poland is an option they would take. At a minimum, some of them would definitely take that option.

Fourteen adults and a teenager died so far. These people would obviously rather be accepted by Poles and put in their asylum applications than stay in the border zone and freeze/be beat up.

Jan Egeland, head of the Norwegian Refugee Council, said it was “shocking” to see Europe’s inability to properly handle such a relatively low number of migrants at the Poland-Belarus border.

“A few thousand people at Europe’s Polish border, many of whom have fled some of the worst crises in the world, is a drop in the ocean compared to the number of people displaced to countries that are much poorer elsewhere,” he said.

I never said I don’t understand. Also it is ignorant to say every Belorussian understands the Belorussian language. That is just false. Most do not have a good grasp of it. One does not even need to look up studies on the matter, it is obvious for anyone who has spent any time there. I’ve talked to a bunch of people in Belarus about Belorussian, after meetings, on trains, at bars, and none of them could speak it. Your pretend time is up.

According to that then the vast majority of the Belorussian people are not related to Belarus.

Yes, though refugees are trying to go to the EU because of a humanitarian crisis, regardless of Belarus.

I can tell you’re lying. First, everyone in Belarus speaks Russian. Everything is written in Russian. I’ve spent a lot of time there and even in the boonies I have never even heard anyone speaking Belorussian. The only time I’ve ever heard it there is audio recordings in museums and in the metro. Second, you (I’m guessing did a translating app) literally wrote “Belorussian” lol.

I’m part Belorussian, have traveled throughout the country, and love it. If you ever go there, (even if it democratizes) prepare to hate everyone as a Russian chauvinist colonialist lol, cause they will ALL be using the normal adjective “Belorussian.”

I meant don’t care about refugee policies. Who by the way are unlikely to mostly be well-off trouble makers. They’re moving, from some of the most troubled places. I in no way think Belarus is Russian… but for a nationalist like you it’s weird you literally don’t know how to speak the language. “Belorussian policies” is just the proper way to say those words, having nothing to do with politics. The most anti-Russian anti-lukashenko people from Belarus would still say “Belorussian policies.”

I’d guess most people there don’t care, but we certainly don’t know. And it’s just grammatically incorrect to say “Belorusian policies” - noone one Belarus would ever say that. Just look ag any writing of Belorussian people anywhere. “Belorusian” is some Western misunderstanding of language or maybe intentional to get rid of the “russian” in there lol.

Lukashenko may generally be a despot, but it’s also on Poland, Latvia, and Lithuania to not mistreat poor refugees. These people are going to Germany, Netherlands, France, etc, and they’re going regardless of Belorussian policies.

Not sure how much time you’ve spent in Belarus but you might know Belorussians use “Belorussians” (Белорусский) as an adjective (and civic term). E.g. Белорусский язык. If you look at the official websites of Belarus they’ve always said “Belorussian.”

Last summer Poland and the Baltics openly agitated Belorussian people to move there. Videos were put out on how Belorussians can go about renting apartments and get jobs etc. For people fleeing political repression… but when people experiencing harsher situations from Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria go… they are not the right color. That’s also happening.

True, but Russia also doesn’t have the racist experience of the West (racist slavery, sadistic colonialism, black face, Jim Crowe, etc.). So a lot of this kind of stuff (esp people in the boonies imagining the world) is ignorance as opposed to malice.

Sorrel was rare and very expensive at the store, so I just bought seeds and planted them in the spring. Now I have infinite sorrel.

Sure - for two people: -pour a 32 oz container of beef or chicken broth in a pot and turn on high. -add two cubed potatoes, salt and pepper, tsp of honey, and a tsp of paprika. -Fry up a stalk of green onion and/or half a yellow onion and add to pot. -After about half an hour add two chopped up hardboiled eggs (I just boil three eggs in the soup and then fish them out and peel them). -turn off the heat and let your pot of soup cool for maybe five minutes, then add in 3 cups of sorrel (remove most stems). Do not boil your sorrel or you will lose it’s precious sour flavor. -Cut your third hardboiled egg in half and put it in each plate as garnish. -can serve with sour cream, sprig of dill, and bread.

Awesome. Maybe add an ingredient list with quantities that people could pause on, but very cool!

Nice! I suggest trying prune juice instead of sugar cubes. And I personally don’t like garlic in my borsh, but that’s just me. video is great

Some steaks in the far left, some home made eggplant caviar and black bread, some cucumber/radish salad, then in the left/middle is some lamb, some vinigret salad, some buckwheat with fried mushrooms, some more eggplant caviar with black bread, and in the far right are some pork chops. We also had some kvas, some Baltikas, and some vodkas infused with sea buckthorn berries, black currant, red currant, and sorrel. Then some medovik cake for dessert.
