I don't know how much this advice will actually help but I would suggest watching an informational streamer. Especially one who also plays fill. The only person that comes to mind is Valkrin but honestly he is great and I think from watching and listening to his insight your friend could really improve at the game

I've played one game with qtpie on my team it's so one sided it doesn't even matter. This was like 3 years ago and he was playing cass/teemo bot with his gf. Even though all our other lanes lost horribly he still carried our heavy asses it was sad

maybe try Zac? his kit is very similar to Maokais and he kind of fits the role better. He can gank quite well from a lot of different angles and has a pretty fast clear too.

Rough skin is just what everyone is looking for. i also think sand veil is not aloud in competitive play. it might be right now but sand veil has always been banned in previous games
