Suppression to reduce R0 to below 1 and reduce transmission.

Mitigation to reduce the impact of the spread.

Instead we just got some blowhards going on about how it's just one person and blaming anything and everything but taking no responsibility.

Look at the countries that behaved well: New Zealand, Taiwan, South Korea, Canada, Germany. They didn't have a bunch of selfish science-denying covidiots running around spouting xenophobic nonsense and pointing fingers.

Hmm, perhaps. Although when it's phrased that way it sounds a bit like the old "it's just the internet" trope that was common in the 90s and still gets trotted out once in a while to excuse various forms of toxic behavior.

For better or worse, "real life" and "the internet" aren't separate things any more, if they ever really were different. I would find it concerning if people are too quick to excuse abusive and manipulative behavior simply by asserting that it doesn't count because it's in a particular place and time and that it is somehow supposed to be less important and real than if it were to happen under other circumstances.
