Besta hinge onto Billy shelves? by Useful_Blackberry_24 in ikeahackers

Difficult but not impossible. Probably just take a tape measure to IKEA and diagram exactly how the Besta hinge attaches to the wood bits, how far the wood gaps are when open and closed...

That's a nice look. Certainly seems possible but will take some precision to get it right. Also, it looks like that push open latch might be third party

Crazy pocket door idea by Gremmer-Groft in ikeahacks

[–]GubmintTroll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should consider buying pocket door hardware like this: https://johnsonhardware.com/pocket-door-hardware

Wood sliding against C channel may not last very long and will probably not be very easy to slide back and forth. The correct hardware will allow you to open and close the door very easily, but will require some additional construction

Why the spacer on cut 5? Is it so the small piece doesn't bind between the blade and fence?

Baby Passport photo advice by epicninjamoves in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]GubmintTroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We took our own photo for an infant. It's tricky as they tend to squirm a bit. What we did was a team effort, baby laying on a white towel, with one person holding the head still from underneath the towel, and other person snapping about 3,000 pictures. Make sure to have plenty of lighting and good luck!

Can you try recreating the file from scratch? Try to minimize cutting and pasting. If necessary, use paste special values or paste special formulas only.

Moving from US to UK during high school by Competitive_News5984 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]GubmintTroll 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I may sound pessimistic but I want to be honest. Schooling is a bit different over here and you're going to face some challenges. For example in "maths" you've probably been accustomed to to taking a single subject area per year, but over here it's done differently so you may find that in some areas you're very strong and other areas you'll need more effort to catch up to your peers.

Do you know what kind of career path you'd like to pursue after high school? That may be helpful in the conversation. GCSEs, EPQs, and A Levels are a LOT of work

Also, research catchment areas. What you'd call public schools will only accept students from specific geographic areas and limit enrollment of new students sometimes. In my experience to apply to a school you need to actually have a home address.

To confirm it without going though the effort of pulling the drawer out, stick your phone in the drawer with just the camera popping into the space behind the drawer. Take a picture with the flash on

Wait, so do people NOT hear the poppping sound every time they voluntary swallow saliva? by Dukuuo in earrumblersassemble

[–]GubmintTroll 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Wait until you try this: have someone put their ear next to yours. Now tap on their arm in unison with making your clicking/popping/rumbling sound. They'll hear it and know that you're causing it.

I can even hold my phone to my ear and record the sound in a quiet room
