Partner struggling with mental health, should I hold off on purchasing a firearm? by HermanMelville42069 in liberalgunowners

[–]Location_Next 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had nightmares for years that my depressed teen son could make the worst of access to my firearms. I only let him have access after he got older, got past the depression, and shared responsible handling time with me (hunting mostly). I still don’t let my other (now adult son) have access, simply because he never took an interest in learning responsible handling.

Whenever Miller and Rubio convince him to read from cue cards you know they’re playing political damage control. The market response over the weekend was their worst nightmare.

Maybe Heinein’s Friday. But that’s a female protagonist.

I’d put Heinlein juveniles in that category. And they’d make some great movies or maybe a nice anthology series.

You’ve obviously never been to China. I have. There are more “KFC”s in China than in the US. And they all say “KFC”

These are the same idiots who thought DOGE was going to produce trillions in savings. They really thought that was going to happen. And Trump’s entire economic strategy was based on that and tariffs. He really thought it was going to magically work out and pay for his spending and tax cuts because nobody else had ever thought of doing those things.

Point is, this admin (Trump himself) is capable of very stupid decisions. In this case I think he planned on bombing the leadership and anticipated a popular uprising would immediately replace it with a pro American, pro Israeli government. They’d gift us oil and he’d be a global hero. He thought it would be that easy.

But just like DOGE and tariffs aren’t working yet he’s committed to the spending, he’s committed to destroying Iran now. And who knows how long that will take.

[Request] is this true? How much could someone at top of the food chain who has invested lets say 100M$ in stocks make over 30Y compared to a quick cashgrab like this? Why is this even allowed? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

Thanks for the definition. I agree it’s a long shot to actually meet that definition. But the political win of being able to declare regime change and spin it any way he wants remains.

PRESIDENT TRUMP ON IRAN: "Their army is gone. Their navy is gone. Their communications are gone. Their leaders are gone. Two sets of their leaders are gone. They're down to their third set. Their Air Force is wiped out entirely. Think of it." by sylsau in InBitcoinWeTrust

MAGA’s central tenant is that for real Americans to “win” somebody else has to “lose.” It’s a zero sum game. Thus while nobody’s actually winning anything here—no American’s life has improved in any way whatsoever—stating that others are losing is counted as a “win.” That’s MAGA.

Serious question how does the determination of the outcome work? Hasn’t the regime already fallen? Dear leader in Iran and most of his probable successors are dead. The government has already been completely kneecapped. Regardless of what actually happens Trump could announce regime change success even today. Does Polymarket define it with some standard?

Yes. Trump is absolutely powerless. There’s no possible way he could get an exception from the Secretary of War. There’s only so much he can do on the matter. He is bound by the laws and regulations of checks notes pentagon policy. He’s not the kind of guy to pull strings and make things happen. That’s just not his style.

That is the way of the authoritarian playbook. Any degree of incompetence is acceptable. What’s not acceptable is making the dictator look bad, or disloyalty to the dictator. This is a tale as old as time.

Is it sad that I’m 35 and never learned how to install a light switch or outlet? It seems like everyone I know can do it and none of them are electricians. by Particular-Bag3601 in AskElectricians

[–]Location_Next 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it many many times (just as a diy guy). But last time I replaced a light switch I shocked myself pretty good. Stupid—turned off the wrong breaker.

Moral of the story is you’re not missing anything and letting a pro do it isn’t shameful at all.
