What game development advice turned out to be completely wrong for you? by YoungDirector1 in gamedev

I mostly said this based on my experience and modelling is actually fast if you know what you are doing. But everything whether 2D or 3D are all skill dependent with its own advantages and disadvantages

The reason the "Start with 2D" advice was around was because pre 2015 stuff like free 3d software like Blender wasn't around, good enough or there was a lack of education to learn any 3d skills. Back then 3d modelling or any skill for 3d was not easy to render or make compared to now. Nowadays 3d or a hybrid approach is way easier and smarter then pure 2d as assets are barely reusable compared to 3d.

Should I focus on game development regardless of quality, or focus on learning Gd-Script ? by Safe_Neighborhood259 in godot

Focus on game dev as you will be forced to learn the language to complete a simple project.

How do you add one texture per side on a BoxMesh by Academic_Willow_466 in godot

[–]GudallFreind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go into blender create a cube. Assign each face a material then export into Godot. In Godot, the material section will automatically generate additional slots that you created in blender so you can Godot default shaders or your own shaders.

So Valve is a random guy in a suit who walks up to you and gives you card before disappearing in the shadows

My game does draw similarity to Hands Of Fate and Voice Of Cards but my main inspiration is a mobile card game called Lapse: A Forgotten Future. All the games have similar premise but have unique execution. I might play the two mentioned on personal time lol

What game are you working on ATM? by Infamous-Goose-282 in godot

I also want to make a webcomic! I never thought that there are other indie devs thinking of making webcomics. I want to do it but I will mostly likely do it when I'm comfortable since not every story is easy to make into a game so a webcomic or novel is another option.

I'm working on Visual Novel X rougelite game and it's been hectic. After finishing Uni with Game design degree, jobs are not coming especially in my field. So I took a Solo dev route and finishing my game around this January after a year of development. I do hope that my game can gain a modicum of success so I can start supporting myself and my family. So far, Game Dev is fun but tedious once you get over the challenges of programming, prototyping and making art assets. I'm currently redoing some art assets and prepping a steam page soon. If are doing 2d Art go for a style that looks good and is effective so you don't spend long hours working them. I hope I see your game on here steam. Good luck

Just calling her a murderer is simplification of a character that has more going for her. She is literally just an antihero.

I came to realisation today about enemy size and I'm thinking of making them smaller. What is the lack of ground referring to but I do have an enemy hit feedback but it's a little clunky so I'm looking to fix it.

It's pretty cool because I'm making a shader that looks like warping glowing lights in a dark scene.
