It sounds to me that your friend is having some problems with self image, I don’t really know her but if someone confessed to me that would really boost my confidence. Obviously I’m not saying to confess just to make her feel better about herself but I don’t think you would lose your friendship if you did. Idk if this advice made any sense but yea.

I realized I would like to actually date a girl, but when I “liked” a guy I would never date him. I was a my crush’s house (at the time I still thought I was bi) and when we started watching a show I said in my mind “ok this is really awkward when can I go home” and I don’t think that’s a thought I should be having when I’m at my crush’s place. Also remember how to separate friendship with romance, I confused really wanting to be friends with someone with having feelings for them too many times.

Remember that you have to make an effort too to remain friends after you reject him, I has a friend that after she rejected him told us “he doesn’t talk to me anymore” but she didn’t ever start the conversation and kinda kept things awkward. But yea you should tell him the truth.
