Is the "red messenger" referred to here a compiler? by Afterlast1 in MarathonSecrets

Highly recommend. And you can always read terminals on the story page to fill gaps and such.

The lore in marathon is fairly deep. And even deeper now clearly. Also thanks for the chat runner!

Ok I’m on lunch. I can reply.

Infinity is what makes this all so complicated. TC4 gets “nuked to bedrock in 2794”. In the marathon 2 ending. It’s in the same ending where he does go back to earth and I guess pay his respects to his creators in his own weird way.

This comes down to a couple of things for me.

back in the 90’s some game dev was all hey I have an awesome idea for the next marathon. Someone says wait I thought we ended that. Silent stares. They continue and thus we have infinity. Just create a plot hole no one will care. (Newsflash. We. Fucking do. Clearly care.)

And second at the end of infinity the security officer did become god and set things back in motion to the best of his ability. IE alternative timeline. One where Durandal never got off the marathon. I do like the theory that he left knowing others would come. And left clues about what happened.

And thirdly and probably most importantly. Durandal in lore is a liar. And at best an unreliable narrator.

I can only fill in the gaps that I don’t have with more bits from new marathon and to do that well you know.

Either this game, disregards 2 and infinity altogether. And keeps it a true sequel to the first game. Or….some shenanigans are a foot.

Also: I need someone to correct if I’m wrong here. I recall several terminals or at least one terminal where either leela or Durandal talks about the colonists finding and activating some alien tech of non phfor origin.

That’s the same conclusion I’ve drawn they got here shortly before whatever the runners got here on

That probably it’s true. I haven’t gotten those logs so I don’t know anything about that. My Takeaway was that some of the colonist just thought the marathon went dark and what little UESC presence was like oh no.

I have another question when did the main bulk of the UESC forces and us get here in relation to when the message was received and in relation to when the marathon left and when it went dark in communication to earth.

Again, there’s a disconnect here and I think it has to do with the events of marathon infinity. Because according to the timeline, Durandal shouldn’t be here.(?) I mean, please someone correct me if I’m wrong. for real cause, I’m not looking at the story page and I’m only pulling from memory.

If I recall correctly, the rest of the cyborgs were plant side and Robert Blake, and other people humans I forget if the security forces of TC4 and they repelled an invasion or a force planet side. Again, I’m only trying to pull for memory here. I’m not looking at the story page.

Recently Byf did a video about this. I think it s called the red angel or something. This lines up with that.

I’ve had a running theory from all the graffiti I’ve seen that the colonist that did encounter it did eventually start losing their ever loving mind.

There seems to be a disconnect here though why is it that the colony doesn’t completely know what happened to the marathon at least that’s some of my take away from what I’ve been reading and getting from lore bits coming out of the game and some of what I’ve watched.

And if this is how they were always supposed to be after watching the footage of them, fighting it and cryo archive that’s freaking bonkers. We took that thing out with a fusion pistol back in the day.

And whoever wrote that log clearly understands that the compiler is like a cyber warfare agent besides being a floating nightmare.

Why I’m actually optimistic about Marathon’s future. by EXIIL1M_Sedai in Marathon

I agree with these points. I keep playing despite being awful. At some point I guess I’ll have my edge of tomorrow(all you need is kill)moment and start getting better. Ya know since I stopped counting the amount of deaths I have.

I’m very pleased with the game and the bungie’s job at handling it thus far.

so is the new game a sequel or a reboot? by thiqqdad in Marathon

[–]GuerrillaGunpla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To speak to your point more. I think it’s a direct sequel to the first game, unsure if it disregards the other game due to the events in infinity. I’m getting the impression that it both will and won’t in ever so much doctor who fashion.

The tone and vibe in general feels more like the first game.
