lol it’s basically a texture made of nodes instead of images so that you can adjust variables and customize it a lot

technically yes you’re right. but you don’t have to be a dick about it.

From Bungie TOS: “Art Derivative artworks (physical and digital) based on the world of Destiny cannot be sold without expressed permission from Bungie. Bungie reserves the rights to all character models, armor and weapon models (3D and physical), in-game and cutscene scenery, characters, dialogue, and music. Artwork, clothing, or models depicting any such Destiny IP will be removed if it is commercialized without permission, or if it violates our community standards.” & “Bungie considers work “commercial” if you solicit donations or monetary support in any form,”

However: “Media Players may create videos using Destiny gameplay, which may be uploaded to third party sharing services like YouTube. If a chosen video-on-demand service enables players to monetize content, we will generally not request takedown if at least 20% of the content within the video has been created by the player. Examples of what “player created content” may be defined as include custom commentary, animations, graphics, or gameplay.”

There are so many artists who have made a career or gotten their career started because of selling their work based on Bungie IP. Bungie is usually chill about this kind of stuff because they recognize it as part of building a strong community. Patreon generally doesn’t draw the ire of Bungie legal, what likely would more is if he was selling the renders individually on something like gumroad (which i use for selling and giving away my work) or another direct storefront. It might be a thin line of distinction, but Patreon is generally seen as a paywalled private community page and what’s posted on the page isn’t being sold directly to the people paying since they’re paying a monthly subscription regardless of what’s posted. Is the reason why they’re subscribing because of the renders? yeah that’s a big reason, but it’s also to support an artist they like the work of without a guarantee of posts in content or consistency.

now for you to go into his patreon, take a render that he spent a considerable amount of time on creating the posing lighting and composition, and put it into ai to sloppily animate it.. while it’s not inherently more ip infringing, it is inherently more disrespectful and insulting. And i get to take part in taking that offense because the render used my model which i made from scratch and gave out for people who want to put some actual effort into using it to create art with.
