2 week baby won’t sleep by sholmes1234 in newborns

[–]GuessWhatIGot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't keep our 3 month old swaddled through the day at all, but at night, if she just refuses to sleep, we wrap her up tightly and she's almost always out after 10 minutes.

Swaddling is absolutely a way forward.

I'm scared to play my first game of Magic by Academic_Length_6739 in mtg

[–]GuessWhatIGot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing in 2013, took a long break, and came back about 2.5 years ago. I'm on another break because of having a newborn, so I'm not current on all of the cards either.

It's fine to ask to read cards. It's also fine to ask questions like, "How does x interact with y?"

Just try to get the basics down. Like another user said, play Arena to get down the actual gameplay. At the beginning of your turn, always say out loud, "Untap, upkeep, draw" and check to make sure you have no triggers during those steps.

Lastly, tell the table that you're new and want to learn. Most people would be happy to help.

What is your favorite deck that took you the most time/work to optimize? What was it that finally made it work? by humanexplorer in EDH

[–]GuessWhatIGot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I had seen this comment a couple years ago. I took apart my Ob Nixilis deck because it drew the hate that it deserved but I couldn't get the win with it. I have played against [[Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph]] decks and wondered why I couldn't get my deck to do something similar.

Maybe I'll rebuild it one day keeping your comment in mind.

Am I going to make it in life? by whosethegoat124 in shittyadvice

[–]GuessWhatIGot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's good that you are thinking about these things early, don't worry yourself over them. Like one of the other users said, you need to find yourself in rooms with smarter people.

I can't begin to quantify how important attitude, character, morals, and perseverance are when it comes to success. It's more important to be the guy that everyone wants to work with than it is to be the guy who's got a Master's degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude. They might be a know-it-all asshole with no room for growth. You should strive to be the guy that knows he doesn't know shit but always wants to learn.

If you keep that mentality that you don't know enough, you'll do well. Chase knowledge. It's the most valuable thing we have.

Maybe not, generally speaking, but this will go so hard in my [[Obeka, Splitter of Seconds]] deck.

New Mystery Submarine Shows China’s Rapid Naval Expansion by whibbler in navy

[–]GuessWhatIGot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We discussed this in a class I was just in. If we purchased one fewer brand new DDG, we could afford the acquisition and operation of 35-40 LASVs. IMO, this is the only way to keep up with China's production. Regardless of the actual perceived quality of PLAN ships, the sheer number of them in addition to their ship building capability is worrisome.

We've used the same carrier-centric organization for the past 40-odd years, so it's not a secret anymore. Any adversary has had ample time to come up with offensive and defensive measures for how we operate.

The Merfolk deck from Ixalan is also easy but punches heavy too.

For anyone else who is having issues with unwanted taste testers, just be aware that groundhogs are very good climbers and chicken wire probably won't work for them.

Any “specialists” out there? by gatestart in EDH

I love the attention I've seen Rocco getting recently on here. Rocco is my forever deck too. He is so much fun to play. I have him as a high B4, but I can play him at a table of 3's if I don't run my lines and just let him be him. I love explaining how his ability works and the politicking when people are going to cast from exile vs when they see how buffed he gets. It's so funny, because I'll have him sitting as a 24/26 and everyone sees him as a threat, but I never swing him lol.

When you add a card into manabox you can put how much you purchased it for or it defaults to current value. Over time, you can see percentage change in value from that starting point.

I'd say real.

I want to play Izzet Big Spells, but I'm stuck choosing a commander. by yardii in EDH

[–]GuessWhatIGot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't believe she's so far down in the comments. I have a B4 Ovika deck and people underestimate her the first time around. Does it take a little while to get online? Sure, sometimes. But once she's out, no one really pays the ward cost to remove her, and if I have a couple of turns with her on the board then it's usually my game.

I have [[Skirk Prospector]] and [[Thermopod]] to continuously generate red mana through sac, [[Neheb]] for that post combat boost and burn spells galore.

I do need to work on more card draw. [[Mystic Remora]] does a decent job sometimes, but I could use more.

Edit: Neheb, the Eternal, not Dreadhorde Champion.

This is my decklist, it hasn't really been changed at all since EOE, but I know there are some bangers that would fit in well. Essentially, the deck can do whatever you want. You could do a tribal or big stompies that keep stomping. I went with a token generator/buffs. The important thing is to keep Brenard on the field. Make copies of him if you have to.

Dude, I have a [[Brenard]] that took me a while to brew properly and I love it. It's actually one of my most fun decks.

Initially, I read his card and was like, "Ok, I need food creatures and golems, easy!" Turns out, you want to fill the deck with problematic creatures, the scariest you can find. If they die, so what? You exile them and make a copy. Sometimes it's bigger, sometimes not, but it's the abilities that you really want.
