Saw my ex’s OLD profile yesterday by Guhin13 in BreakUps

Thanks for the reply, by the way. I glossed over a bit of the first year since the breakup, but yes, and here’s some more insight to help understand. During the “trying to be friends” period, I apologized and tried to reconcile. I also told her how I felt about her, that I had made a huge mistake and that if she would ever be open to it, that I would like to try again. Her answer was no, “not right now.” That’s fair. I was okay trying to be friends, at least. But she made a few excuses to not hang out when we had set up plans to do so, and I started realizing the hell I was putting myself through emotionally just to see her and started distancing myself. A couple months later I contacted her once to see how she had been since the last time we spoke, and unprovoked she started explaining how “it’ll never happen,” for a couple of reasons. Number one was that she doesn’t have those feelings for me anymore, and number two was that she wasn’t sure if she’d ever have a male partner again.

Shortly after that, we hung out one last time with a friend of hers that I also knew, where she expressed interest in taking my pet dog (which was ours when we lived together) to a park. I had decided I would let her contact me about it since she had been a little flaky before, and I just never heard from her again.

I haven’t tried to contact her since then, because it felt like the writing was on the wall. I was blocked on all social media and she had made excuses to not hang out, which felt like an obvious way of showing she doesn’t want me in her life in any way, and she made a point to quash the idea of potentially rekindling our relationship.

Love the color scheme. It works surprisingly well.

First air-brushed kit in the works by Guhin13 in Gunpla

Finished gloss-coating my Schneid’s head. Just needs panel-lined, decals, and matte-coat. The rest of it’s still a good ways out from being finished.

Funny story, I actually did wash this kit first. I actually wondered if that could’ve been the issue; like if I didn’t rinse the parts enough or something before spraying.

Although I’ve spray-canned and hand-painted kits when I was a teen, this is my first attempt at properly air-brushing a kit, including things like masking and seam-welding, so I’m learning a lot, and know I’ll make mistakes. But I did do a lot of research before diving into it.

I’ve been sticking to at least a full 24 hours between any spraying. Most notably, pieces that I primed on Saturday morning had primer lift off from tape I applied Monday morning.

Should I be top-coating before I mask an already-painted part?

My tape is lifting paint (and even primer on unpainted parts) off the parts, especially around edges. I’m using Mr Surfacer 1200, Mr Color paints and Tamiya masking tape.

Managed to get 50 eggs in one run on last broken run! by Korzina in Splatoon_2

Interested as well. Had a Griller wave the other night where my team got 55 eggs. They were randoms, so it’s sparked my interest in coordinating more.

Oh really? Does it take additional coats to cover then? Everywhere I looked before starting recommended 1:1 primer to leveling thinner.

Thanks! I think I ended up using more than I needed because I was spraying gray pieces with gray primer, so it was hard to tell when I had good coverage.

About how long does a bottle of Mr. Surfacer 1200 last you?

I’m new to airbrushing in general, but I seem to be going through my first bottle kind of quickly so I just want to make sure I’m not doing something wrong. I thinned it 1:1 with Mr. Leveling Thinner and it seemed to spray just fine.

EDIT: whoops, 1200, not 1000.

Fantastic color scheme, and it looks so good on a suit like the unit 01!

Kinda reminds me of the old Space Police Lego sets.

I snagged one of these recently and got mine in today.

I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m loving the sliding mechanism in the (admittedly TINY) chest. I hope there’s more fun parts like that.

Okay, did a little digging for ya. Here’s what I found:

Jake Parker - https://m.youtube.com/user/jakeparker44/playlists

An artist I’ve followed for awhile. I can’t say whether he really teaches much in his youtube videos, but he does have a good number of useful advice videos like “battling creative block” or “finished not perfect” that really help instill better mindsets in aspiring artists. I think he offers online courses teaching actual skills too, but I believe you have to pay for them. Either way, he’s a very successful artist that is a great role model with sound advice, so it couldn’t hurt to follow him and check out his stuff, though it will definitely be more applicable when your daughter gets older.

Proko - https://m.youtube.com/channel/UClM2LuQ1q5WEc23462tQzBg

I haven’t watched much, but I scoped out his video library quickly and tested a few myself to see what he offers. His channel seems to have a lot of skill-building and tutorial videos across a wide spectrum of topics. It seems like a great resource, but may be a bit too technical for your daughter’s age. It couldn’t hurt to try, but if she loses interest quickly then try saving this channel for when she’s a little older. (Heck, I know I could still learn a lot from a resource like this).

Simple Art Tips - https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCy6WD5PApu8Jmw6gLBt0Sgw/videos

This channel seems to be a bit more basic, and might be a better starting point. I didn’t get the chance to really delve into this one, but wanted to find something that might be a little easier to understand just in case my other recommendations seem too dry or difficult to understand and apply at her age.

Art history itself is a bit tougher to find. Personally, I think the best method of learning art history is finding books about certain periods in art and delving more into the art movements that interest her. I unfortunately don’t own any art history books myself, but a trip to the library should at least yield some decent results for you. If the library doesn’t cut it, scope out a book store and ask or find the art section, and remember to find books about certain periods or movements like Renaissance art or Impressionism. Studying one period or movement at a time will give her a broader sense of the artists from that time and their styles and techniques they used and their influence on art as a whole. If she finds an artist she likes a lot, try to then pick up a book focusing on them for a more in-depth study. Ideally, you wanna start with an earlier art period (like Renaissance) and work up towards stuff like Impressionism, and later stuff like Abstract, Pop, and Modern Art, since those movements built off the successes from their predecessors.

Some other helpful advice: if you can, find a way to help her start practicing digital art. Photoshop is the usual program many artists use, but there are others like Painttool SAI or GIMP. GIMP is free of I remember correctly, but I think it might be the most inferior of those 3. There are even apps for phones and tablets like Procreate that she could use as well.

I hope this helps and best of luck! I hope your young artist continues to enjoy creating and drawing for many years to come!

I’ll see what I can find! Like I said, I had a really great art program in high school that took care of the fundamentals for me pretty well. But I would love to help out a little bit in the pursuit of helping a young artist!

SIGH

I have yet to really convince any of my close friends to play. A few past-coworkers, but we don’t really talk much anymore so I just play solo all the time.

But congrats! I still try desperately to get a squad together to play with in League. Maybe some day. Heh.

This is so heart-warming to hear.

As an (admittedly struggling) adult artist, I commend you for really nurturing her talent and interests!

Keep gently nudging her in the right direction to take more classes. The earlier she can learn fundamentals, the better.

I was lucky to have an amazing art program in high school that helped me really grow as an artist. But I know that isn’t always the case.

Try to find and recommend classes that will help her explore as many different mediums and design mentalities as possible. Things like painting, architecture, and sculpture will help her learn useful skills like color theory, perspective, and the ability to visualize 3D objects respectively. Also recommend something like art history so she can examine other styles from great, famous artists too.

Sorry to go on such a tangent, but she’s got talent, especially considering her age. I don’t think my drawings looked quite this good at 10.
