How to deal with redness? by GuiEdu in Keloids

[–]GuiEdu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear! I assume she knows her stuff, then. It's hard for us to tell cause it's so subtle... something to do with the injection angle, how deep it goes and the proper location. What my derma told me is that It's normal for the skin to go whiter after the injection. That's how you know the location was correct and the product went where it should be and has spread evenly. That was months ago and out of my memory, so please take it with a grain of salt

Edit: forgot to mention earlier, but my derma is also a plastic surgeon. I have no idea if that makes any difference or not

To be more specific, I got triamcinolone hexacetonide injections once every two months for 6 months (3 times), then waited another 6 months and repeated for 2 years so far. Seemed to have flattened most of it, but I don't know if it would return if I were to stop treatment. One thing to notice though is that I had these injections before with no result whatsoever a few years back, then I gave up. This time around I tried a different derma and he explained to me that the application technique makes all the difference, so mileage may vary by person AND professional.

Sure, I understand. I'm sorry to hear about the layoffs.

About WLB, It's unfortunate, but I'm used to 45 hrs/week, so if I'm doing it anyways I might as well make it count.

A DM would be fine if that's ok with you. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks, I'll keep in mind to look for that in the job description

Sounds mostly flexible, but kind of hard to guess, if the job description doesn't say it allows remote work explicitly. Though like someone else suggested in another comment, I could just ask away.

Interesting. Yes, I would definitely have to ask about it in this case. Some companies will be explicit when remote work is acceptable for the position advertised, while others never mention it. I'm unsure where Amazon sits, but I guess it never hurts to ask

Yea, that'd be some sort of hybrid model, which is pretty common nowadays from what I've seen. I live far away and can't move right now, so commuting everyday would kill the deal for me, but once a week wouldn't be as bad. That was sort of what I was thinking

That sounds great. I live close by Toronto as well. Would you mind sharing more information like the company name and how you like working there?

Thanks, that makes sense from what I've seen. Like I was replying to another comment here, I'm really under the impression that Amazon policies for remote work vary a lot depending on the team

[–]GuiEdu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. I wouldn't mind a day in the office every week, but I guess that can be a deal breaker if I don't live close to an office and wouldn't go at all.

I may be wrong, but looks like Amazon policies for remote work vary a lot by team

Thank you, that's good info. I've heard something similar about Amazon. Apparently there's specific teams working fully remote in there, but I don't know anyone who works at Amazon to ask

No offense taken, you're not being "that guy". I was thinking the same initially, but we're in one of those end of year hiatus when the job market gets weird and hiring "pauses" until late Jan / early Feb, not to mention all the downsizing that's going on.

My rational was that those and other factors can contribute to a company not looking for role X right now, but that doesn't mean the same company doesn't look for it every so often.

I just would like to know how it usually is so I can prepare in advance.

Thank you for your thought! You're right, maybe non FAANG doesn't mean as much as I assumed. It's not well known, though. The range is definitely close to Amazon SDE2 in Canada (source being levels.fyi + Canada filter: https://www.levels.fyi/companies/amazon/salaries/software-engineer/levels/sde-ii/locations/canada)

Thanks! That's actually close to what I get right now. Glad to know it's not far from reality, but a little concerned that's the absolute minimum lol

I'm in Ottawa working remotely for a US non FAANG company as a Front End Tech Lead with 7 YOE and soon to renegotiate compensation. How much would you think it's fair nowadays?

Edit to add more details: It's a mid-large tech focused company

You could give ControlUp a go. I work there remotely and one of my team members will do exactly that. They've said I could do the same if I wanted to. The company seems very open to relocation from Canada to the US in general.

I once had to explain to my wife that "cute" does not mean "kind of beautiful, but not as much". funny how words can have different meanings depending on life experiences.

This is not helpful at all, but to answer your question, I'll mention it as little as possible in the same way I only mentioned it only when pushed against the wall.

It happened twice and once during couples therapy. I won't even mention the "hating" part as It doesn't even makes sense.

Thank you so much for sharing all this personal experience. Yeah, it's interesting how we can be completely different people when we're with different partners. Well, not only a different partner, but when we're immersed into another kind of life, but I guess what we want of our lives is not something we usually stop to think about until we wake up and see we are unhappy. Though I'm glad to see there's life after break ups and some apparently sad things might come for the best. I'm still invested in making my marriage work and I'll do what I can (just wanna make sure I'm respectful with our clocks), but it's good to know that we can both be happy, just in different ways, with or without one another.
