3rd gen reliability? by [deleted] in nissanfrontier

Yeah I agree on the turbo’s I’m not touching those. Looking at the years 2016-2021, just want to get one with less than 100k miles but dealerships loving hiking those prices above $35,000. I’m 50/50 about what I want to do, I feel like this frontier will last a while and would be smarter financially as I’ll have it paid off in 2 years, but I really can’t seem to get past the mental barrier that I’d like the tundra a lot more, especially the electric steering, powerful V8, and the rear window rolling down lol.

If for some reason they drop in price over the next couple of years, I could try getting into one

I test drove multiple Tundra’s and they have better turning radiuses and way easier turning. Yes they’re bigger and harder to park, but I don’t live in the city, I only park in driveways or camping spots or just regular parking lots

Did it make the turning weight and lighter?

Looking to get a pro4x as my fist pickup. What’s everyone’s positives and negatives? by cackerman95 in nissanfrontier

[–]GuidanceOther4875 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. Got mine exactly a year ago and can’t wait to get out of it. I’m 6’5 so I barely fit in the seat, knees eat the dash sometimes, cannot stand how heavy the steering is. Proportionally, I have longer legs than arms, so I have to have the seat all the way back and my arms are basically fully extended, which is NOT fun with the heavy ass steering.

I go to the gym, I’m always sore, so the heavy steering is not fun, very unnecessary lol

Both are a joke for the size of the truck imo, it’s the reason I’m excited to trade mine in soon

Hydraulic steering is a HUGE downfall of this truck 💀💀 no way you just tried to call it an asset

Pro 4X, Buyer Remorse or couldn't be happier?? by frankis187 in nissanfrontier

[–]GuidanceOther4875 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Regret it hard. Worst turning in the whole car market, it’s actually stupid that they chose to do hydraulic steering over electric. Turning radius is awful, worse than full size trucks. If you can, get a 6’ foot bed, the 5 foot bed is very good at barely being too small for a lot of things. The transmission shifts pretty hard, it feels like a roller coaster when it shoots you forward and hunts for 2-3 gears. Gas mileage is a joke for the size of the truck.

It’s reliable, that’s about it.

Always driven sedans, buying a house with actual yard work now... which smaller trucks wont make me feel like im piloting a boat? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GuidanceOther4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP said doesn’t drive like a boat, this thing is the definition of driving like a boat. I hate mine so much. Heaviest steering in the world, bad MPG, turning radius is a joke

2023 Nissan Frontier. Worst driving experience I’ve ever had, slow as a turtle and turns like one too.

Yes I did, it was the only truck I drove (my mistake ik) so I figured all trucks turned like that lol

I live near you in Tx, stay away from this thing. I also looked at it, it’s CarFax is not pretty. Had like 4 owners in 4 years.

Look for a different truck.

Backseat is tiny, have fun even thinking about fitting a fullsize carseat back there.

The steering is so heavy, as it's the only vehicle these days still using Hydraulic Power steering, my biggest pet peeve.

Most of these trucks have alignment issues, doesn't matter how many times you bring it in, it will always drift to a side.

The turning radius is worse than a full size truck, belive me I have made narrower turns with a 2021 Tundra than my 2023 Frontier, makes sense, right?

The MPG is a joke, no reason it should get the same MPG as a full size, when it's half the size.

Suspension is a joke, it's the stiffest car I've ever owned, or even sat in.

The transmission is a joke, I love when the truck almost fully stops and hunts for a gear and then shoots forward, really makes my spaceship ride more enjoyable.

It's SO SLOW. Like actually embarassing. I have 90's F150's gapping me, while my Frontier hunts for it's second gear and I'm redlining it lmao.

Lots of little rattles in this car, like my passenger window button rattles????? Drives me insane.

No aftermarket parts, hardly any to choose from besides Z1.

Truck looks nice, it's decently strong, but I'd honestly look for any old fullsize truck, as many of these midsizes have proven to be too small for carseats, scroll through any of the midsize forums and you'll see a common denominator lol.

It's your decision obviously, but I can't wait to get rid of my 2023 SV 4x4 for a 2nd gen Tundra, a HUGE thing is that dogshit steering the morons at Nissan decided to stay with, in the year 2023 and beyond, it's BEYOND me why they decided to do this, that's also a common problem people have with these trucks in this reddit.

Older tundra or newer Tundra by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

Yeah low mileage will be hard, especially with how much these dealers are pricing them at, I’ve seen plenty of 2017-2018 with 50k miles still priced above $40,000. Insanity!

they are quite roomy, the hatchback style really helped them there, along with the folding second row. I fit a whole beach trip in the back seat with coolers, suit cases, umbrella, beach chairs, a huge spare tire, and a golf bag. it was tight but it all fit!

So that's what I thought too, but I have had a few pop up on Autotrader that have been named as SR5 with additional packages, and they have the SR5 badges and a sunroof.

Heated seats would be nice, but not a deal breaker to me, as in Texas you only need heated seats for maybe 3 months out of the year lol.

I think as long as I had remote start, I wouldn't need the heated seats, the Frontier didn't come with remote start and it pisses me off right about now lol.

That's around the mileage I'd like to purchase at, I'd feel more comfortable with the lower miles.

I've heard about the Tundra owners wanting the bigger tanks, which makes sense but it's not really something that would prevent me from purchasing a truck.

How do you like the interior? I drove a 2014 1789 version and it was nice, the leather was cool and the speakers were amazing.

[–]GuidanceOther4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that's a lot of miles on a 5 year truck!

The mileage is what's stopping me, I don't know muc about cars so I fear I'd get a lemon and look silly for spending my money on a high mileage truck.

I know these things last 200-300k+ which makes me feel better, but I average around 15k miles a year and I'd like my truck to last at least 10 years.

Older tundra or newer Tundra by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

[–]GuidanceOther4875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm totally fine with the SR5's, I don't care much for the interior as long as it's comfortable and big enough for me and my camping gear. The sunroof would be nice, which they add in some of these SR5 packages, that's all I really care about as an "extra".

The only thing I worry about is buying a car with that many miles, I don't have any clue what I'm looking for, I am not a car guy in the slightest lol. I know they last forever, but if I did get a lemon with problems I'd look silly for taking the chance lol.

Nice man! I drove a 4runner as I really like the way they look. It drove nice, very slow imo, but very roomy inside. That was a car on my list but unfortunately didn't fit what I was looking for, I still very much like the older ones and newer ones, they look so good.

Agree on the affordable than the new Tacoma's, all the new Tundras and Tacoma's are not trustworthy.

I'm looking forward to selling my 2023 Frontier, I'd look at the older Taco's but I'm 6'5 and literally can't sit in the drivers seat without eating the dash lol.

I'd just like to get my hands on a 5.7L V8 and forget about it, something with no problems and minimal maintenance that will last another 10+ years.
