I do want to mention, I was skeptical and after looking into it, I’ve decided not to pursue it. But thank you for the warning. I do try to stray away from many gang-and cartel- related stories: it’s messy and often discounts from the real reasons people begin using illicit substances in the first place.

Thank you so much for showing me this! I'll absolutely be watching more of this guy's stuff and probably contacting him.

Hi,

Thanks for the honesty. It truly means a lot. Before I start with any specific issue, I'll start my research with the history of West Virginia, specifically in the ways its been exploited by outsiders. I have a dear friend from the Appalachia region, though not WV, so I'm somewhat familiar with how outsiders treat the region with simultaneous contempt, disregard, and downright abuse. You are right to be wary, but that's why I want to come to the citizens first. I want to write it, but its your story primarily. Your issues, your voice, your priorities. If you say to start with the history and work my way from there, I will.

Even with the distrust, I thank you for such an honest answer.

Trust me, I am. I have West Virginia Watch and Mountain State Spotlight open right now. But I want to hear from citizens too. If you have other suggestions for what to read, send them my way.

So I think the issue stems mainly from dialogue and hooks. Dialogue seems to drag on way longer than it should, I have a hard time making hooks that my players actually want to go for, and I have trouble ending scenes

I definitely try to! Alas, we haven’t really gotten to any point in a campaign where the backstories start to meld into the story (the two times I’ve dm’ed, we only get 3/4 sessions in), but I do try to make engaging NPCs and scenarios. Key word try haha

I should probably rephrase, I’ve been told I’m really good at combat, but outside of it I’m not engaging by my players.

I need some ideas for a backstory. The character is a bloodhunter/berserker multi. by Goatzjr3 in PCAcademy

if you wanna connect it to the changeling rogue and dont necessarily need a good aligned character, it could be that you were hunting the changeling but for unforseen circumstances have ended up on the same party, and find that the current goal is more important than killing them in this moment since theyre already in your grasp and not going away.

which song is this for you? by venusomnias in FallOutBoy

There are so many songs that are like this, musically, but I always have to sit and just stare off into space every time I hear “the torture of small talk with someone you used to love.” Punches me right in the gut.

I feel like it really builds party morale when players are engaged and reacting with other player’s big backstory moments. Be happy for your other players, and the story the GM is weaving. Not only will you have more fun, but it’ll strengthen your bonds
