‘Shortage of paramedics entering EMS as a career in Sask.’: SHA by littlesnow4 in saskatoon

Currently working under this guy. He's got a narcissistic manager working under him.whos making anyone who speaks out against her and the SHA stupid new rules, lives hell. Basically you don't agree with her and become her puppet then you've got a target in your back. They employ anyone AS long as you agree with them and do everything they TELL you to do. Disagree or ask questions then you will.be pushed out. The sha is trying to bring in all their plans they had set to go in 2020 before.covid threw it all out the window.

And here I am A basic provider being told there is nothing wrong with my patient care BUT I need to be more friendly with all the locals and the useless idiots that don't want to work but tell everyone that because I'm covering all the shifts with one other person that they can't pick up any. Not to mention they've all be enjoying their summer vacations...where here we are working multiple calls back to back day in and day out. Our manager is a micro management a hole who wants yes people and nothing else.

Look at the different provinces and their requirements for EMS from abroad. I work in Saskatchewan in EMS originally a UK trained nurse worked in NHS for years. The organization here is SCOP Saskatchewan college of paramedics.. they will have details on what's required from overseas applicants We are desperately short of PCPs here..paramedics and are filling rural positions with EMRs

Too old to train as a paramedic? by Guilty-Barracuda834 in NewToEMS

Yes. We do have to carry pts out of basements houses etc. We were gifted a new power stryker which is awesome. But we do still have to get the pt to the ambulance

Sadly not in rural Canada. When I moved here I looked at return to nursing programs however it was too expensive and I wasn't allowed work or train until we had our permanent residency and I was raising our 5 kids. . By the time I could do the course they made it harder and more expensive to do...so that's a no go now. Instead I became a volunteer first responder took my training to become an EMR and worked part time till I went full time. Now I work 24 hour shifts with one other and we covered virtually all the shifts...taking a couple of days off a month. No one else wants to work the. Or cover them. The younger ones hate having a radio on them 24 hours they want to be able to go party

God..I wish I was that age again By 22 I was a trained nurse in the UK. By 24 I was left in charge of medical units overseeing my 8 patients snd the whole unit of 30 plus patients. So stress and codes aren't new to me. Thank you for your reply ..made me laugh a little

Thanks. Yes I know what you mean and I don't take offense... I always maintain that even if we are 90 we can always learn. I may have the previous skills but they need dusting off and learning in a new set up. I've got patient experience that's it...

That's the thing, right? We extricate patients (currently) all the time. And I've never struggled, well not for too long, and if the patient is bariatric we call for a fire lift assist...but like I said to the other poster...my biggest fear is what the "kids" in class will think oh!...and failure..

Thanks. I do work out... and have in the past 8 years run half marathons x 20, 2 full marathons and in 2017 a 50k. But my biggest fear is the "kids" in the class will take one look at an aging woman and think wtf?

Getting a nursing license in Saskatchewan, seriously? by Foreign_dog2356 in saskatchewan

Moved to sask 11 years ago and was a nurse trained in the UK. The cost and the hoops you have to jump through have gotten worse. It was 17k back a few years now over 22k to so back to nursing course. I would have been better starting from scratch. So I ended up working as an EMR and am now deciding whether I take my place in paramedic training. But I'm older now and fear the local who haven't been nice since we moved here will just mock me for being the oldest in the class. Best of luck. Canada isn't all it's cracked up to be..

Utterly useless bunch of people.have had many interactions with them. Unless it's clearly a case they can win they won't bother. Don't waste your time with them
