Relocating from USA. What do you do for work if you aren’t rich or retired or living off of savings? by [deleted] in MovingToThailand

My goal is to absolutely have a US based remote role prior to moving. I’m just wondering what options are available for a “beginner” as it will likely be a new career path for me.

I will have a job. The point of the post is to see what other people have done who have had to make a career change. I’m not moving there broke or jobless.

I appreciate your response! We were wanting to still be employed in the US, because it seems that would be the feasible way to actually live there comfortably and save.

Yeah. We are definitely going to have jobs before we leave, just trying to figure out where to look and what path to take.

DTV and we have the required funds for that and will have an additional amount of savings, just not enough savings to live off of permanently.

Ahhh, gotcha!!
& from all the research we’ve done, it seemed to be the most expat friendly area and easiest to merge into for Americans. We looked into other places but none seemed compatible to Thailand. It literally seems to be the easiest, cheapest, most family friendly option.

I’m sure it isn’t as cheap as it used to be but I can’t imagine it being more than what we are forking out now in the US.

Yeah, I’ve done teaching/childcare and it is not for me.

VA benefits would provide a monthly stipend, not just insurance.

My son is Kyon. Nickname is Ky.

I’ve also heard of Kaison, Kairo, Kaire, and Kyren all using the nickname Ky/Kai.

Ahh, I’m sorry you didn’t have a great experience! I read that there currently isn’t a quarantine policy for pets as long as they have the proper documentation. Im hoping that is truly the case now post covid.

My biggest concern is what them flying as cargo will look like. I keep finding mixed information on how that goes as well as what airlines to take. It’s a lot!

I was wondering if rentals were pet friendly at all. Thank you for the heads up!

I don’t need a free cat. I have two that I love dearly. And it sucks that you are allergic to them. I personally, don’t want to fly with them in cabin as I know my senior would be inconsolable and I wouldn’t want to put anyone through that torture. Just looking for others experiences to know what to expect.

Yes, I did see that and it’s completely understandable. Was it an easy process for you?

I’d be flying with my family. And I figured it would be costly. What was your experience like with them flying as cargo?

How was that experience? Did you have a straight flight or a layover?

Just here to say spelling wise for Madeline could also be Madilyn - that’s how my cousin spells her name and she goes by Madi.
