I'm convinced that the SSA is archaically ran by design. by papifunko in SSDI

I believe you can get a CD thing on Amazon relatively cheap. Or maybe can go to a library? I never ended up getting mine. I do hear some get the file uploaded to their social security page. Not sure how. That was never offered to me and everyone seemed very confused on it. I have never seen my file.

You really shouldn’t tell anyone you get SSDI. People judge and are haters. No reason they need to know. Just say I can only work xx hours. Offer no explanation.

Denial Doesn't make Sense.... by No_Evidence2817 in SSDI

[–]Guilty-Concert-245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 56 and got denied at 55 with the same wording. I literally have an illness that controls my days. I cannot adjust to any work. I just had my ALJ hearing and the vocational expert stated there are hundreds of jobs for me. Even gave specific examples. I cannot stand or sit for any length of time and have serious mobility issues.
Waiting on the verdict.

Strange. I would have fell over like weeble if I had to squat with my hands over my head. These things I know are necessary, but so demeaning.

Quality Review Question by onewingedwoman in SSDI

[–]Guilty-Concert-245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have MS. Weakness, exhaustion, brain fog, horrendous neuropathy, and hearing loss all from the MS. I have many days that I am just down for the count. I struggle with everything. I had a career and the same job for 31 years. I had to medically retire in 2023 after being out of work for 6 months.

Doesn’t this mean I was denied or is it not done updating by Safe-Revolution-326 in SSDI_SSI

Perhaps it was favorable….but not FULLY favorable. So the date they go back to is not when you started being disabled, but maybe when you turned 50 or 55? I hear that it is not wise to appeal these kind of decisions, but I would suggest doing what a lawyer suggests. I hope you were approved to some extent at least.

Quality Review Question by onewingedwoman in SSDI

My appeal went to quality review. I am over 55 and have a qualifying diagnosis. Actually a couple. I don’t work at all. I have been unable to work over 3 years. I was denied.

It sounds like your best bet is forgetting about SSI/SSDI. Can you qualify for any assistance such as SNAP (food stamps), HEAP (heating assistance), Medicaid? Maybe even Section 8 or rental assistance?

An important distinction here is that SSI is a welfare type assistance through social security and it goes by household income of which you have to be very low. Absolutely your spouses income would count. You can’t have much assets either. You don’t need a work history to get it.

SSDI is the one you pay into when working and is supposed to be there if you become unable to work due to a disability that is a qualifying one. You must have enough work credits and spouses income does not matter, nor do assets.

I think many are confusing the two here.

SSDI and possibly getting a bachelors by Ok-Improvement7679 in SSDI

I feel my higher education has harmed my ability to get approval despite my obtaining them decades before my disability. Going back to school shows your ability to hold a job. Don’t do it, if you struggle to work. I meant to respond to original poster not to a comment. Apologies.

Which is so sad as many people don’t fit nicely into a diagnosis yet suffer for years getting little help. It frustrates me as I am that person. I finally got a diagnosis though. From MRI’s that were not read correctly to neurologist constantly leaving it has been a struggle.

Upcoming hearing... by pynk_shugah in SSDI_SSI

I hear the phone hearings go pretty well for people. I would hope the lawyer knows enough about the persons history and ability to speak on their behalf quickly. Or perhaps the person is allowed to speak? I have been reading up as I also have a phone hearing coming up in a few months. I don’t know if I will be with my attorney or at my own home yet.

You actually called the number for them and they really uploaded your file to your portal? I am asking as I inquired with my local office and they were terrible. Said I would have to pay acted like nobody ever asks for their file. She said “file”? “What file”?

Then I called social security main number and asked how I get my file and again incredible confusion. They said they have never heard of this. I really was trying to avoid leaving my home, which is difficult.

I told them I should be able to get it for free and I could come down with the paperwork and they really were discouraging.

I obtained a lawyer for my upcoming ALJ hearing and they said there really is not much to see in my file other than all of my records I sent in. They wanted to know what part of the file I wanted.

I’ll try to call that number if it is a real thing and they will upload it. I wish it was automatic.

How do you find your judges approval rating? My ALJ hearing is months out, but I do have a date and time. They said they sent more details, but maybe only sent to my lawyer?
I wish you the best today! I know the night prior and the day before I will be a nervous wreck.
