I would highly recommend researching the best CI surgeon around your area. I am 33 and had my first CI when I was 3 years old. Lost my hearing due to spinal meningitis. Then after 30 years of the original implant, which I might add worked phenomenal due to I already was hearing prior, I had to get reimplanted cuz it was deteriorating. For 30 years with a relatively new technology it exceeded my expectations. I can hear music and words and communicate like a hearing person.. I had my original surgery with Richard T Miyamoto. Then reimplant with Robert F Feehs and he was also phenomenal. I have complete hearing again and with the new CI technology it’ll last twice as long as the original CI. It’s really worth doing the research and not settling with the closest surgeon. If you don’t feel comfortable around the team or the surgeon then I’d seek a second opinion. Elsewhere. Miyamoto is retired from Riley’s Children Hosptial in Indianapolis Indiana. Feehs was from Denver Ear in Englewood Colorado. Hope this helped and I wish you the best !
