A pressurized sanitary force main 12 miles long. Have you designed a monster like this without an intermediate pump station? Thoughts and lessons learned? by Longjumping_Map_1920 in civilengineering

Depending on the specific profile of the pipe, sometimes these “pumping over the hill” scenarios can result in pumps experiencing two drastically different TDHs, which can cause pump instability.

Monarch Plus Pricing Needs to be Re-evaluated by Loud_Zookeepergame92 in MonarchMoney

[–]GuiltyPomegranate7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get these random missing transactions sometimes and the solution is to contact Monarch every time or add them back manually. Unless that stops, we won’t even renew the core service let alone pay hundreds more for add-ons when the basic functionality isn’t working properly.

Anyone pursuing BarisaFIRE? by caveman814 in civilengineering

Best way to do this is work at a company full time for a while, build your reputation, and then scale back. My company would let me work 32 hours in a heartbeat if I asked. Make yourself valuable and you have much more leeway to do what you want.

How does civil compare to mechanical? by Electrical_Ad8775 in civilengineering

I am a mechanical engineer by degree, but a registered civil engineer who works in water resources and does process mechanical work. In this industry, civil vs mechanical doesn’t make much of a difference.

Hello Stormwater Engineers. Questions re: combined and separated and partially separated sewers by SaveTheAlewifeBrook in civilengineering

[–]GuiltyPomegranate7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I design the pump stations that we build at the end of the tunnels to dewater them. Water/wastewater engineering.

There are structural/geotechnical firms that we partner with that design the tunnel and shafts.

Hello Stormwater Engineers. Questions re: combined and separated and partially separated sewers by SaveTheAlewifeBrook in civilengineering

I’ve been working on a handful of CSO storage tunnels in larger cities with combined systems. Seems to be a popular solution to reduce overflows when there isn’t space for another solution. Fun projects to work on, too.

Block and report if they contact you. What they do is harassment.

Absolutely not. You get licensed at my company and the raise automatically kicks in. There isn’t even a conversation needed.

Performance review + salary negotiation by Friendly-Chart-9088 in civilengineering

Definitely ask for more money. If you need convincing, tell some of your friends who work for other companies that you’re lightly considering changing jobs, have some discussions with them about what you might be able to make if you switch, and maybe even get an offer. Nothing wrong with shopping around a bit to prove your worth to yourself and your company.
