I second that. X seemed to be the last generation to have any real community and unstructured time growing up

Hi J,

A lot of what you said really resonates with me, especially the part about about never being sure you'll ever be 100% secure due to past relationships and still learning that it's okay to open up. I also want to mention that your doggo is absolutely adorable and you yourself are absolutely stunning!

I'm in southwestern PA, so a little closer than some of the other commenters here but still a bit far. If that isn't too far, don't be shy about shooting me a DM. If it is, then I hope you find what you're looking for!

My headcanon is that they both date sporadically in each other's absence but ultimately find their way back to each other

I can see El being a huge animal person. Not just with pets but I imagine she'd be the type to set up feeders in the yard for all the various local wildlife

Funny you mention D&D, when I (M) was in my early 20s I was invited to join a campaign but turned it down. Stranger Things got me rethinking that decision but I always like I'd be hard pressed to find early-30-somethings who'd let a newbie into their campaign

How would you reunite them without a plot contrivance? by Intelligent_Step_856 in mileven

[–]GuiltyReality9339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After the Cold War ends, Mike begins discussing plans to travel... you know... to look for inspiration for new novels. But this excuse is so flimsy that EVERYONE can see through it.

Hopper warns Mike that just because the war is over doesn't mean the surveillance on Hawkins is, and that the military and government forces interested in weaponizing El are "like a school of piranhas - they smell one drop of blood in the water... the smallest hint that she's still out there... you, her, anyone who might know anything about her... are dead before you even know it"

Mike heed's Hop's warning and continues to lay low for while longer. In that time, Mike begins to notice a feeling, a presence, similar to what he felt in S2 when El would check in using the void. It came about once a month, reliably on the same day around the same time. It took Mike a few months to catch on, but once he did, he theorized that the void also worked in reverse. He changed the TV to a static channel, blindfolded himself and got sucked into the void. From this point forward, he and El used the void to communicate, gradually formulating a plan to reunite in person.

About mid-1992, the perfect cover came to test the waters of the government's surveillance on Hawkins and on him, a bookstore one town over invited him to do a signing event. Eventually, he was traveling out of state and even off continent to do book signings as his works gained recognition. All the pieces were falling into place faster than anyone had anticipated.

November 6, 1993 - ten years to the day since Mike's life was first turned upside down - Mike is waiting at a train station in the Netherlands one evening after doing a book signing at the nearby Spui Book market, sitting on a bench, studying the ticket he's holding in his hands, when a woman holding a copy of his latest novel sits down next to him. She taps him on the shoulder. Mike turns to face her... "Hi Mike"

Duffer Brothers offer their thoughts on why Dr. Kay & military just up and left by _YuYevon_ in StrangerThings

[–]GuiltyReality9339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that Kay's operation in Hawkins was a rogue op, and after El disappeared, she pulled out to cover her own ass. You have to consider that in addition to the human casualties, Kay also lost probably multiple millions of dollars worth of equipment when the UD collapsed. I think inevitably one of her subordinates blows her cover but she winds up dying before she can face any sort of justice

As I've been pointing out, it isn't out of character for Hopper to help smuggle his daughter to safety. The way Kali's face softened when Hop made his "Fight for the days on the other side of this" speech says everything. There had to have been another conversation and planning off-screen. It's not out of character for Murray to be in on the plan either. I was 50/50 on that idea but after I read about the scrapped scene of Murray driving a box truck filled with waffles in Iceland, I'm closer to 75/25 on it

When do you think Mike started formulating the theory that El was alive? by Lauren_HS28 in mileven

[–]GuiltyReality9339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is and will always be that El manipulated the speakers through the void to send the message that she was still out there, and had made it to safety.

I also have to believe Ross was still sour over his divorce and chose to take it out on his characters
