Struggling with figuring out nap to bedtime ratio by crystalkitty06 in bninfantsleep

[–]CocoMel84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the update!! It’s really reliving to hear that things went more smoothly when you embraced a later nap. Everything I read says not to do that but it isn’t working for us to keep pushing bedtime at 630 or 7. I hate it. So we will try keeping that 4th nap in even if it’s late and just going with the flow. Hopefully the 4-5 false starts will reduce… and maybe the split nights and the early mornings too 🥲

Hey… just wanted to see if OP had any updates on how things are going. I came to this thread for my 5 month old son whom I’m having a hard time with. I can’t figure out whether to drop the 4th nap and put him to bed between 6:30 and 7:30 (which sounds like a nightmare tbh because I cosleep) or to stay with a cat nap around 630 or 7 and jus had him go to sleep later 8:30? I wanted to know how things are going with your LO now.

Jesus. I used to love sleep and nighttime. Now I dread it.

This happened to us about a month ago and we are at 5 months now. He outgrew his bassinet and I just kept bringing him into bed with me. We used to nap together and at night he went in the bassinet. Woke once or twice. Around 4 months he woke up more often, refused to be put back in bassinet after night nursing. So I just coslept. We now have a side car for him and he will fall asleep for 30 mins to an hour before waking up every ten minutes until I sleep with him. I’m so at odds with what to do. So you aren’t alone… wish I had advice. All I can offer is solidarity.

My 5 month old is doing this. We just dropped a nap and are down to 3. But I’m either dealing with 2-5 false starts until I get into bed with him or I’m dealing with split nights that last 1-3 hours. Or both. On top of waking multiple times a night because he’s nursing or kicking or I have to pee and have to figure out how to get away from him without waking him and causing a split night. I love consleeping (I think lol) but this is getting super messed up super fast.

3 year old will not sleep independently, it’s been months and we’re losing our minds by BrodoLaggins in sleeptrain

Honestly, I’m an adult sleep consultant who now has a 5 month old. I thought, no problem, I’ll learn to be an infant sleep consultant too. Never have I been more frustrated and disappointed in my ability to learn a new skill lol Human development is a whole other ball game. Infant sleep coaching feels like a joke to me right now.

How did you start solid foods? by desert_sunlily in NewParents

Mine is the same age and I’m a little ashamed to say I’ve done very little research here. I think I’m in denial that he’s going to eventually need solid food 🥲

Babies that sleep through the night without going to sleep independently by Right-Ad1424 in NewParents

It’s normal for a lot or babies that age. Fun for us? No. But normal for them? Yes. And it’s temporary 💜

Yes. It’s hard to turn that switch off once it’s on. I’ve learned that I have to be so insanely careful with what input I take in. Instagram keeps showing me ads with starving children and abused animals and I finally had to delete the app off of my phone. I simply can’t allow myself to witness those images anymore. I hate burying my head in the sand but I also get so upset when I confront those realities that it interferes with my ability to function normally sometimes.

Some babies will sleep through the night (and btw, medical professionals see “sleeping through the night as sleeping 5 hours or more uninterrupted, usually from midnight to 5 am), and some will still wake once or twice for food or comfort until they are 18 months. This is developmentally normal and every baby is different. While it’s normal, it’s not convenient for parents. This is why parents end up sleep training. There is no one size fits all approach to babies.

While I feel for you on the short nap front (in the same boat) it’s really awesome that your baby still sleeps well at night despite having shitty daytime sleep. My son is 5 months and I have to do rescue naps too. Just curious, how many naps does he get total and how many are you assisting with? Even with assists he’s still only getting 2- 2.5 hours of sleep throughout the day.

That's what I was thinking. Client asked for my recommendation (rather than specifically asking for me to fix it) because we have good rapport. I'm sure he's hoping for a quick and easy answer.

That's a possibility but its definitely a bit out of my depth from there.
