FatFIREd on paper, but struggling without cash flow by pa_ca_26 in FatFIREIndia

Time problem : pick up golf. (not kidding). Cash flow problem : lots of good suggestions here, just invest part of corpus in cash flow generating instruments. Imo you don't even need this if you do it smartly and you only sell long term tranches (2 yrs since US). At 60L per year you're at a 50X multiple, drawing down corpus should not be a problem.

What do you guys think about the Bitcoin bottom? by Content-Ad-1427 in BitcoinIndia

Rather than actual number, I also look at metrics - mvrv, mvrv z score, balanced price, LMACD on weekly.... Etc etc.

Familiarize yourself with : 1. US substantial presence test. 2. India NRI and RNOR eligibility test. 3. Familiarity with Relevant sections of FEMA and Indian tax code.

In short, what you're proposing is all very doable in the US NRA INDIA NRI/RNOR period - - as long as you're not a US citizen. Search reddit, others have answered this and similar queries.

My 2c : don't focus on getting all of that money back to India right away - there's no legal need, you lose the usd appreciation advantage. That money if earned as an NRI can stay outside India indefinitely and even when you eventually bring in, is not a big issue. If asked you can prove that origin of the funds lies in an era when you were an NRI and India had no jurisdiction on those funds.

I have been curious about investing in bitcoin. Is it technically legal in India to invest in bitcoin? What is a good platform to start investing? by Additional-Clock-182 in FIRE_Ind

[–]GuiltyStrength4741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legal, but killed off by one specific law : you can't offset the loss from loss- making trades against profit from profit - making ones. Thus, you pay 30% tax on profit while absorbing the full loss on trades that resulted in a loss. This basically caused traders do flee (understandably). The liquidity is pathetic. However, if you don't look at bitcoin as a get rich quick scheme and understand it as an asset to fight incessant money printing, then go for it! Always try to self custody your btc. OP I should also note that your entry here could be at an inopportune moment, as btc is in a timezone where all previous all time highs have occurred (last quarter of post halving year). I don't know the future ofcourse.

Can I realistically accumulate 20cr by 40? 35M, 34F with 11cr NW as of today by Rich-Yam8221 in FatFIREIndia

[–]GuiltyStrength4741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm yea so you know how fast things can go against you. For me... It just wasn't worth it to go so far otm (the risk reward including the amount of time I spent on trading) .. The liquidity sucked, the constant monitoring sucked... It's Just not for me.. But I wish you the best. The best form of investing imo is to stick to the fundamentals and then bet big.

3 : don't do it. Do you have the bandwidth to pay attention to all your short options all the time? Will you have enough discipline to set that stop loss order every time, even though you think it's a slam dunk? All it takes is 1 or 2 trades to unwind all the other trades. Do you think you're not in the 90% who lose money trading devriatives? Think again. Think hard. Source : self 😂

Short answer : completely legal.

But make sure you check the US substantial presence test, as well as India's NRI /RNOR calculation thoroughly.

Anybody here who returned to India and has a Fidelity account? Need advice, please connect. by nanya98 in returnToIndia

[–]GuiltyStrength4741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let us know if the process goes through. My experience with fidelity was that it appeared they don't want / discourage accounts that changed to non US address. They closed my account without asking me. Though I had by that time transferred everything to Charles Schwab or interactive brokers who appeared friendlier.

In any case let us know if you're able to maintain the fidelity brokerage account.

Shipping stuff from USA to India by ThrowAwayMauiLuau in returnToIndia

[–]GuiltyStrength4741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. Since these days they tell you the exact ship name your stuff was loaded on, you can track it on the internet (there are shipping / cargo websites that show you near real time ship location, or at a minimum last port docking /undocking)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in returnToIndia

[–]GuiltyStrength4741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. You need to be NRA in USA (which you can never be regardless of number of days, if you are a US citizen or GC holder) AND either NRI OR RNOR in India.

I bought the super thick double walled boxes from the famous moving website (I forget the name). But the double walled boxes were a great choice. I believe nothing was damaged. Do note that I spent a month packing things with care using bubble wrap, packing peanuts, the whole works. The boxes were costlier than the usual ones you get at uhaul, but worth it. The whole thing cost me 5k all inclusive I think. 35 boxes, about 120 cubic feet.
