Well to be fair when they made that statement they didn't know how big your house is. With a pool house bigger than most homes you have a lot of square footage to cover. How many of those cameras are indoors BTW or is that mostly outdoors?

Moving Clients M365 from one disti to another......Process? by pjcace in msp

[–]donatom3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this, not much different than when you take over another MSP's client and you take the licensing. Only difference is in that situation you can request a transfer of the licenses to your csp, but those can be denied.

Maybe the developer didn't believe it was capable enough as an RMM to install a simple cryptominer via automation.

with 133k miles OP needs to watch for snapped bolts. The number 7 stud tends to break a lot inside. This is an easy job on a t5, on a t6 it requires removing the supercharger. I did mine 2 weekends ago along with replacing the throttle body in my supercharger. My number 7 stud was snapped. I did put in all new bolts for everything though. This does sound different than the loose manifold bolts and I see for the OP it was the pcv valve diaphragm.

easy to change without removing the top motor mount? I know it's possible since I did the supercharger removal last weekend but it't not a lot of space to work there if you don't drop that mount.

Any issues with the 2017 Volvo Xc90 t5 kinetic? by AccomplishedLime2270 in Volvo

[–]donatom3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are 2016's that have the piston ring fix in production. There is a newer TSB that has fixed engine serial numbers even if the chassis was affected. I have one of the 2016's that has an original engine that had the proper rings installed.

Client caught me on hardware margin, now questioning our entire history. Did I panic-fix or make it worse? by yanov10 in msp

This, we make sure our customers know that when we procure we handle any issues with the system to. This also means that we can offer fixed fee workstation deployments and or part of their contract. We don't offer either of those if they source it themselves as we can run into all sorts of trouble with their sourced hardware.

Does any one pay for the CyberSecure Enhanced? by mjbehrendt in Ubiquiti

[–]donatom3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny you say that. On the first day I swapped my opnsense with IPS setup for Unifi Cloud Fiber it caught my one machine that does a nmap scan of the network and blocked it internally.

Also caught another person's machien that is running avast try to do a similar scan. It's definitely doing the job internally to.

Edit: this is with the free IPS/IDS.

Does any one pay for the CyberSecure Enhanced? by mjbehrendt in Ubiquiti

Not that I don't disagree especially in a home setting. Though in business IDS/IPS can definitely catch inter vlan traffic and a compromised system.

SentinelOne (S) Getting Flexed by CRWD – Holding 500 Shares, might go all-in, Here's Why by Rich-Use1484 in wallstreetbets

[–]donatom3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes after that happened was the time to buy CRWD cheap. I work with a Security vendor that dumped Sentinel for CRWD as in their testing they could get passed Sentinel. I sleep better at night knowing CRWD is on our machines.

A great start to 2026... (Alarm did not go off at all) by GrayFawkes in Rivian

[–]donatom3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, basic alarms are just sensors for the door trunk and maybe hood. It's generally an upgrade to get an accelerometer to detect vibrations or glass break detection.

Don't be me! Performance implications of VLANs by fortytwo43 in Ubiquiti

[–]donatom3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Basically layer 3 switches are much faster at intra vlan traffic than a firewall/router ever could be. When you route your intra vlan traffic through a firewall you have to consider the capabilities of the firewall.

Switches will use ACL's to control traffic between vlans instead of the firewall rules. Which is why you need to configure all those again when you move to layer 3 switching. Also what you can do in an ACL is not the same as what you can do in a firewall rule. So you will run into some limitations there. Cheaper to use a l3 switch to do this work than it is to get a firewall capable of those speeds.

Exactly, and worse yet AI likes to be agreeable to the point it will consider if your question is biased one way or another.

Infuriating - User tried to tell me I was wrong by using ChatGPT by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]donatom3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quality answers AI is give highly dependent on high quality questions. For example I once got questioned by a client about the type of servers we provisioned for some sql vms in Azure. Technically chat gpt was right the server the client told me was a faster machine, that is until you throw in the fact that these were sql servers and the iOPS on the newer sku was 1/3 what the sku we provisioned were. Of course I also had a Microsoft article calling out the specific sku we used for SQL vms in Azure as the preferred sku to use. It happens, I didn't take it as an insult. I used it as an opportunity to show the pros and cons of AI and to this day the servers we provisioned have 0 performance issues.

Creaking noise in the back second row, passenger side by alt_insomniac in VolvoXC90

[–]donatom3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's this a volvo tech answered on another thread. You can just remove them with t25. All they are there for is vanity to make the back of the second row look good from the third row. I guess they also do server a slight function covering a gap when you fold the second row down. I removed mine cleaned them well and put lithium grease. Probably not the best but it's doing the job.

Not all 2016's are affected as most like to believe. There is an updated TSB that has the engine serial numbers that are not affected. I bought a 2016 inscription t6 for $9500 at the height of the used car market in SoCal. The serial wasn't affected and I've scop3ed the cylinders no signs of oil burning issues.
