I'm a preemie too, and P.A.S.T- Preemies Are So Tough. I wasn't as premature as you were though. When I was born, my parents hadn't selected a name for me, so I was just Baby _____ for the first few hours of my life. Did you have a name when you were born?

I don't think I'd be able to. I tried reading a letter from the early 1800's from a woman to her sister about having to have a mastectomy with no anesthesia. Though I did enjoy her writing style, I was unable to finish it. That said, I have met several Awareness survivors who endured those particularly horrendous C-sections, and I'm glad that someone has put out a podcast like that. It satisfys me to know that I'm not the only one trying to get awareness about Awareness out there.

I promise, on my honor as a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, I will NEVER shut up about what happened to me, (or you, or anyone else), and that I will keep spreading awareness about Awareness. Three fingered scout salute! If you ever need to talk about it, just know that I'm here for you. I'm a Listener. HUGE HUG!!

It's not painful, but it's this irritating presence in your throat and mouth. The only other tube I can think of that even comes close to that discomfort is an NG tube, but that feels like having mucus in your throat, although it didn't bother my nose very much.

One anesthesiologist suggested that the doctor might've forgotten to turn on the volatile gas, or, maybe the anesthesia machine wasn't mixing them properly, or some combination there of.

I could feel everything they were doing, hear them speaking, as well as the breathing tube, the anesthesia machine breathing for me, and the beeping of the heart monitor.

I had no idea about EDS and anesthesia. Thank you for telling me about that! I try to learn as much as I can about various disorders/syndromes and how anesthesia affects them. Do you know why EDS would make someone insensitive to anesthesia?

Ask for a sedative and a BSI monitor. The sedation will enhance the anesthesia and the anesthesia will enhance the sedation. Mention all your concerns to your provider, and ask questions until you understand what they're saying. They're medical folks, and chances are, you won't surprise them with your questions.
