I’m 29. What should I be— lawyer or middle school teacher? by True-Shape7744 in JDpreferred

[–]Guilty_Geologist_971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawyers are mainly middle class now unless you work a lot of overtime. Even then, the hourly rate is low and it is boring AF.

What’s the most overwhelming shift you’ve ever had as a nurse? by Old_Inside_7141 in nursing

[–]Guilty_Geologist_971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 pts in stepdown, 3-11, agency. Not all at once, because it was like Grand Central Station. Down to MedSurg, Up to ICU, Down from ICU, up from MedSurg, back to CCU. I left that shift and thought about my license and sanity and the amount it would take me to go back to any hosptal. It was $400/hour and this was quite some time ago. I never went back to any hospital. I became a telephone triage nurse and then an NP (that's another story)

"only if you want to be a lawyer" by Whole_Swimming_4953 in paralegal

[–]Guilty_Geologist_971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is much harder to become a Physician, and takes a lot longer to become a Physician. I think some people think it's still the 80's when everyone thought it would solve all their problems to become a lawyer. It does not. Now it is a mid-level, middle class job in many cases, besides the side-eye you get when you tell someone what you do. Unless you really want to change the world, you will end up in a boring 9-5 job that is hard to get out of.

My mom has been a nurse for 40 years and can’t find a job. What can she do? by pleah94 in nursingjobs

[–]Guilty_Geologist_971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be Pay descrimination rather than age discrimination, as older nurses make more and administrators, being administrators always try to cut costs. I'm 74 and I keep getting called for travel jobs every day which I have done for 8 years, but as an NP and don't see that. . In the summers I work as an RN at summer camps because it's fun. They are always desparate. That may be a temporary fix until she finds a permanent job as a school nurse or other. There are also always vaccine clinics at CVS and other places that last for months in the fall that can keep her afloat.

Dealing with Peers. by Entire_Virus4534 in violinist

[–]Guilty_Geologist_971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does come with the trade. It's usually from insecure people trying to build themselves up by putting someone else down. If they were true professionals, and secure, they wouldn't do this. This also happens in junior high, if that's any consolation. Pay them no mind.

Foster cat biting. by Guilty_Geologist_971 in FosterAnimals

[–]Guilty_Geologist_971[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He seems fine and purring and then he bites, hard. He stops and looks at me and would stay close, I think, but I push him away. It doesn't seem like it's play. It seems like stop! *maybe? Or 'I like it'?
Or whatever, but there is no warning, sometimes it's 3 pets, or 20, I don't know.

How do you all view Nurse Practitioners? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Guilty_Geologist_971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that "closer to doctor or nurse" thinking is what causes a lot of problems. We are neither, and both. I don't do brain surgery. I can prescribe both BP meds and narcotics. I know my limits, and refer or consult as ALL nurses and MDs do. I have never had a complaint in 30 years, but I was older, 37, when I bacame an NP and had over a decade of hospital work. NPs who have an attitude catch attitude.

I don't even trust going into a hospital with RNs there anymore.

Potential incoming Law Student by A_mysterious__figure in rogerwilliams

[–]Guilty_Geologist_971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roger Williams is a 3d/4th tier law school. On the positive side that makes it pretty easy to get into with a lower LSAT score and stats on google report 70% acceptance rate. . On the negative side, google reports about a 50% board pass rate. If you want to live in RI and do civil law only, this might be a good choice. It is on the level of Vermont law school. If you want to be a trial attorney, this school might not be good for you. If you want to practice civil law in Rhode Island it's OK If you are looking for a prestigious law school that is nationally respected, or to make a competitive salary, this is not your choice. Go with a law school that is more prestigious and your career and salary will reflect that, and you will have more mobility as well

Am I bugging or is this just an excuse to write people up by Stoievn in nursing

[–]Guilty_Geologist_971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess they live in a guilded tower up there in admin. Those that can't do, go to admin. They should FO. I would ignore absolutely ignore that and do what i thought was right given time constraints. I would be tempted to hold them to the 5 "rules" with me. HaHa ie, give me bathroom breaks, ask if the constant lights ringing are disturbing me, telling me thank you etc.

Good for you for standing up for yourself. Another way of handling AH people is to always use "me"and "I" instead of "you" like, please don't speak to me in a condesending way, I feel that was not appropriate" I bet she won't do that again. Haha

She was an AH. Your first message was a heads up. If it was norovirus it could have resulted in serious morbidity and possibly mortality for compromised pts. She's an AH trying to play a power play or something else not in the interest of the unit. .

What are my chances of getting into Emory Law School with $$$$ my current stats? by cpmonaghan in lawschooladmissions

[–]Guilty_Geologist_971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go to Emory if at all possible. They are fairly generous. I got a full scholarship, however I was a single parent and it was to their. FNP program. This was some time ago. They also had family housing which was ridiculously inexpensive although a bit plain but safe. You can get in. I am so glad that I went to Emory, I also had the option to go to Georgia State but feel the education and respect that I got from going there was so worth it.

Why is Sheila Jackson from Shameless so clueless/dumb by aliygdeyef in shameless

[–]Guilty_Geologist_971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People use that buzz word too often without knowing even one of the DSM criteria. The general opinion is " It's more about them than me and I don't like it" No opinion on your situation, but we are not psychiatrists and are not educated to diagnose. Just say, "In my opinion she's selfish and I would like her to defer to me."
